Looks like it was a good effort- Alfie just needs to find something else to get back on terms with Oda, Oda has the clear lead in the rivalry at this point.
In today's world rankings, Alfie returns to number 2. I say returns - I hadnt even spotted he had dropped to 3rd spot behind de la Puente, but it seems he had. Anyway, number 2 again this week.
In doubles, he and Gordon remain at 3rd spot, behind Spaargaren and Caverszachi who swaps 2 and 5 position with compatriot de la Puente.
Mens singles - Alfie unseeded here (just two seeds) but plays Daniel Caverzaschi in opener. De La Puente or Fernandez in the semis; Gordon plays Casey Ratzlaff and if he wins, most likely Oda in the semi.
Mens doubles - Alfie and Gordon, seeded one, start with Oda and Fernandez
Womens singles - Lucy plays Zhu of China in her opener
Womens doubles - in the doubles seeded 2, plays Chasteau and de greef
Ive only just noticed but the ranking points on offer this season seem to have undergone an overhaul and we are in a transition. For example, a grand slam eg the AO is worth 1200 to the winner now. The 2025 slam events still appear as 800 in the ranking points and presumably the 2026 versions will eventually replace them as 1200 as they take place this year. Other 2026 events see relative inflation and so, as 2026 progresses, we have a mix of new points and old points in the rankings breakdown.
It also looks like they now count best 12 events, which Im sure has increased - although I cant recall what it was. For someone like Alfie, this is a negative as he only played 13 events in the last 12 months and so, basically, everything counts for him. Players like de la puente played more events. It looks like the impact of this has been de la puente rising to second the other week as Alfie fell to third, although hes gone back to second again now.
Itll wash itself through but there appeared to be one or two strange ranking place changes that didnt make sense and Alfie dropping to third, momentarily, was one.
The seedings in Miami are based on when Alfie had dropped to third the week before last and so de la puente is seeded two. However, its not good news for him as he plays Fernandez in round one, who is unseeded but ranked 4 and boasts a something like 25-2 career head to head over de la puente. This match up could be a big round one upset, if we can call it that!
Alfie and Gordon also won the doubles final for the loss of just two games. An excellent return to form for Alfie. Well done both and him in particular
The World Team Cup is to be played in Florida this year, just after the US Open, so moving back a couple of months to later in the season. Celebrating its 50th anniversary
GB have qualified for each of mens, womens and quad events. The article doesnt mention juniors, which is usually held alongside it but not sure from this if that is the case this season.
The main tour now moves largely onto Asia for April and a series of events out there:
7-11 April - Daegu Open WC500 $32k
14-18 April Korea Open WC500 $32k
21-26 April Japan Open WC1000 $45k (upgraded from a 500 last year when mens and womens were split)
There is also a WC500 Allianz Para Trophy in Munich, 16-18 April, an 8 player mens only event alongside the Munich ATP event - $45k prizemoney for this event.
In the early Korean "warm up" event ahead of the events mentioned in the post above, the 175 level Busan Open, Andrew Penney flies the flag still and is in the singles quarterfinals.
Marvellous win for Andy Penney in Busan today - he (ranked 20 and seeded 7) beat Sergei Lysov, the world number 12 and seeded 3, in 3 sets. Hed previously lost all 4 of their matches in straight sets including twice this year. Both players are 21 years old.
Possibly the victory of his career, well done Andy.

Next up, he plays second seeded Ji of China.
Andy lost his semi but gave a decent account of himself and overall a very good effort this week.
The tour moves onto Daegu next for the bigger 500 level event and some more top players should join the field.
