There are currently 6 1000 level events on the calendar. Melbourne Open came in January, and after the Baton Rouge, we have Japan Open, BarcelonaOpen, British Open at Roehampton and the French Riviera Open in Biot.
These 6 are in addition to the 4 grand slam events. There are also a number of bigger money 500 level events in Rotterdam, Miami, Rome (Italy) , for example, with limited fields alongside the bigger ATP /WTA events where the fields are typically 8 or 12 strong (hence the lower points level) but the money bigger (typically more like $70k events for 8 players versus the $45k on offer at the 1000 events).
The money at the slams is $500k up to $1.5m at the US Open, making those the big pay days of the sport. Its all about making the 16 player slam fields in each event.
Last 8 stage in the big WC1000 event in Baton Rouge. Worth noting, the top 8 players will largely go on next week and play at the Miami WC500 event, alongside the ATP?WTA stars
For this week, and the big point WC1000 event, the last 8 draws for our players are:
Mens singles:
Gordon Reid (5|) v Tokito Oda (1)
Alfie Hewett (2) v Ruben Spaargaren (7)
All top 8 seeds in the mens reached the last 8
Quad singles:
Andy Lapthorne (6) v Guy Sasson (3)
Again, all top 8 seeds reached the last 8
Womens singles - all Brits are out, a couple of non seeded players did reach the last 8 in this event
Mens doubles:
Alfie/Gordon (1) v Ben Bartram/ Ho Won Im
Andrew Penney/Conner Stroud v Martin de La Puente/ Stephane Houdet (3)
Womens doubles:
Abbie Breakwell/Yuma Takamuro v Lucy Shuker/Aniek Van Koot (2)
Quad doubles:
Oliver Cox/Ali Ataman v Guy Sasson/Niels Vink (1)
Greg Slade/Hunter Groce v Francisco Cayulef/Gonzarlo Lazarte (3)
Andy Lapthorne/Heath Davidson (2) v Daniel Escobar/Leandro Pena
Obviously the focus is on singles in these events and, usually, Alfie. But in the doubles today, in womens doubles, Lucy Shuker is in a big WC 1000 final and, in what was a very open field, has a really strong chance of taking the title. Go Lucy.
She obviously likes it in the American south. Won this title last year in doubles (with van Koot, her partner this week) and that 2025 win was her first since pre covid when she won a couple of titles including this one at that , what was then, super series level.

Sadly all 3 pairs lost their finals. Including Alfie and Gordon- still top ranked but not dominating the mens doubles like a year or two back.
Alfie won his singles semi in 3 sets over de la puente and plays WR1 Tokito Oda in todays final. Oda looks in typically imperious form and Alfie will find this one hard.
