With the tighter games in set 2, I took up an offer of 8/1 against Toby when a set and a break down at 3-6 3-4*.

Unfortunately I held out rather than cash in for a rather nice profit at 3-6 7-5 1-0*

You win some, you lose some ...

Toby and I lost

On the flip side, I bet on Clém at the start

And then took if off after he won the first set - and made about half what I would have done if I'd held out

My prayers have been answered.  biggrin  We have our first men's s of 2026:

Final:  Charles Broom & David Stevenson CR 434 (295+139) defeated Milos Karol & Daniel Masur (SVK/GER) CR 375 (153+222) by 6-2 7-6(5)

They looked unable to get a foothold in that second set, then suddenly put on a spurt & pulled away in the tie-break!

 Excellent

We've said this before, somewhere, but especial congrats to David Stevenson - I hope he wouldn't take it badly if I said no one in the UK will have heard of him - and the vast majority on this forum probably couldnt pick him out of a lineup - and yet, there he is, just outside the top-100 in the world and picking up titles :)

Title would see JoMo to a new CH and just outside the top 200 - serving for the set at 6-5 and deuce as I type

But now level pegging, with JoMo dropping the second by 2-6.  cry

JoMo had 2 MPs, serving for it at *5-4 40-15. But broken.

5-5*

Sadly, no second men's winner of 2026 in Nottingham:

Final:  (2) Clément Chidekh (FRA) WR 252 (1) Johannus Monday WR 233 by 5-7 6-2 7-6(5)  cry

Dang - that is a blow but Chidekh is a decent player and Tony and JoMo can be happy with their work this week

 Shame

With JoMo's serve, you've got to really get one of those.....cry

Clem went the US college route, like so many others

Never did much as a junior on the ITF tour (although he was highly ranked in domestic rankings)

But I think college tennis suited him

Shame but at least it was ultra close

Dubs seems to be the poor relation to singles and David mostly plays dubs. He went the college tennis route (Memphis) so a few of us who follow that chat will have heard of him  smile

Oh, bless him, I'm not saying no one will ever have heard of him smile (there's his mum, after all biggrin) - I meant no regular sports follower in the UK will have, and even those who know his name on this forum would have trouble knowing what he looked like.

I've always liked his name - it stands out - wasn't there a famous guy in Scotland who built tons of lighthouses called David Stevenson? But I couldn't put a face to it. (I'm sure some could, of course, but not many, no where near as many as you'd expect for someone just outside the top-100)

And, yes, it's obviously because of doubles being the poor relation (rightfully so, IMO). Hopefully, he'll get into some top grass events this summer, and get a WC into Wimbledon this year, and that'll make a big difference.

Really felt for Johannus, I went along to watch his final and he came back so well having looked like he was being dominated ion that second set.

The air shot he missed at 40-15 will have haunted his sleep this weekend, I fear. And he did rather freeze over the rest of that game to turn 40-15 into a break. Showed real character to hold under pressure at 5-6 and then led 4-2 in the breaker too. Probably one of those games that helps a player to understand how to keep it together under pressure, but absolutely was 25 ranking points lost, though a good performance.

I'm sure he's a lovely lad, he was so generous at clapping his opponents good shots (including the one that brought up match point for Chidekh it was almost excessive). But I did rather feel that as such a big guy  he could be more aggressive in his demeanour and body language. I appreciate that each person's personality is different, but for me he could impose himself a bit more on the court.

Applaud an opponent's good shot once- nice guy; do it twenty times - it starts to look a bit odd.

Enjoyed watching him though, get a bit more snarling dog in him and he could do well.
