Loffers had to wait a long time to get his 2026 season underway. Out under the floodlights, he pushed Grenier close in the first set, but lost it 7-5 with a single break. Fingers crossed for another comeback

Watched a few games - George didn't seem entirely comfortable with the conditions. Not sure why, maybe because he was playing much later in the evening than expected, but he kept glancing over to his team in frustration, even fairly early on in the match. Did well to get himself back in contention, but then played a very loose service game at the start of the third and that was that.

His first time down under, so I'm not expecting too much, but would be great if he could win a round next week.

JPJ won in a MTB and plays the American fifth seed in the main draw.

I watched a few games of the first set

And George was right in it

But then - at a key point - I think it was about 5-5 - decided to get weird about a fly on the court

From what I could see it was a dead fly, at his feet, where he was about to serve

And he 'complained' to the umpire

And the umpire said, not unreasonably, something along the lines of "it's a fly, push it away"

And George got a little stroppy

So the umpire gestured, and a linesgirl/boy came and picked it up - and then George started a serve preparation and the umpire said: 'thank you' to the linesgirl/boy, and he had to stop

Tbh, it looked as though the umpire was taking the mick - and he wasn't wrong - George looked 'entitled', as though he couldn't deal with a dead fly, (princess and the pea, style) and didn't say thank you

And I was watching, thinking, George, just play the tennis, for Lord's sake, and forget about the blinkin' dead fly

And he lost that set

It was plain daft

As Jonny Aitch says:

L32: (Q) Jack Pinnington Jones WR 201 def. (5) Brandon Holt (USA) WR 109 (CH 99) 6-4 6-2

Now THAT'S a nice result
