The player of the season vote will take place in early January. Most of the contenders will come through the player of the month votes and other means, like winning a slam title or being British number one. We have a list of 22 players already qualified, at the bottom of this post.
However, there will be wildcard places kept aside to allow players who have done good things, but haven't yet qualified, to gain a place.
A wildcard vote will take place at the beginning of January- at that point we will know how many wildcards are up for grabs, once the December PoM vote has completed. However, it looks like there will be 3, 4 or 5 wildcards up for grabs through that vote.
Between now and December 31st, wild card candidates can be nominated by putting them on the list below. Anyone can nominate at anytime, for any reason. There are a few rules:
1) Anyone who has already qualified for player of the season (list below) cant be nominated for a wildcard, obviously.
2) Any player subsequently qualifying through the December Player of the month vote who has been nominated for a wildcard, will be taken off the wildcard list as they wont need one!
3) there will be NO LIMIT on the number of players on the wildcard nominations list
4) there are NO LIMITS on how many nominations any one board member can make. Just put on as many as you please
5) if you feel the reason for a player being nominated can be improved or added to, please go ahead - the nomination is a group edit responsibility, don't feel someone else "owns" the nomination!
6) the nominations can be from any tennis discipline - singles, doubles, or team. Mens, womens, junior boys or girls; wheelchair or para tennis. Or anything else I have not mentioned, it is all tennis and all can count
7) Can I ask folks to try and keep the narrative as tight as reasonable I won't put a word limit on as I can't police it, but please try and be a little bit pithy if you can!!
FINALLY, THE NOMINATIONS PROCESS IS OPEN UNTIL 10PM ON WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 17TH AT WHICH POINT THE LIST WILL BE CALLED CLOSED. THE VOTING PROCESS WILL BE DECIDED ONCE DECEMBER POM IS CLOSED AND I KNOW HOW MANY WILDCARDS ARE UP FOR GRABS AND HOW MANY NOMINATIONS WE HAVE
To add a nomination, it is the same as the PoM process - just add a player to the list below and give a reason and re post the latest list with your new addition sitting at the bottom of the list.
The 22 already qualified are below and DO NOT NEED A WILDCARD - if someone tries to add them, I will move them from the list!

And don't a) be shy and wait for someone else to nominate your favourite - let's just get names on here, please b) don't feel limited or that you own a player - do as many as you feel you can do. If we have 100 nominations, that would be great. I have 13 ready and waiting to go and will be adding one a day; if someone else gets there first, I have others on my own personal subs bench that i may also choose to include!

My first nomination is someone who I feel strongly should by a player of the season nominee. I hope I have articulated a persuasive case to impress those of you who don't follow college tennis to lend her your vote, because not to have in her in the player of the season nominees would be criminal. And, yes, I win the award for the longest narrative and make no apologies for it. Even co-pilot couldn't make it more succinct, but I just loved how it ended my narrative that I just had to use that bit
Player of the Season Wildcard nomination and reason:
1. Savannah Dada-Mascoll - the most unexpected history making breakout year. A relative unknown before September, by November she had become the headline of the college fall season. Achieved a 32-4 college record for the calendar year (34-5 inc ITFs). Her 13-2 college record for the fall semester includes wins over 9 ranked opponents including opening the semester with a shock upset over the then No 1. In October, she was Carolina region co-champion, which is the most loaded draw of the womens regionals. She rewrote Appalachian State history. In a dream fall semester, she became the program's first-ever NCAA singles qualifier, first NCAA singles match winner, first All-American, NCAA quarterfinalist, and capped it all by achieving the highest singles ranking in program history by some distance: No. 5 nationally. When asked what she would have said if she had been told when arriving on campus in August she was going to achieve what she has the past few months she replied, I wouldn't have said anything; my jaw would have been on the floor. Savannah Dada-Mascoll is not just a player who had a great year - she is the embodiment of what Player of the Season should represent: excellence, resilience, and history-making achievement. Her journey from unknown to national All-American is the kind of story that inspires teammates, fans, and the future of college tennis. Vote for Savannah Dada-Mascoll: because this season wasn't just remarkable - it was unforgettable.
Haha, thanks Lambda! I may have to strategically find a way to allow the list to grow without the narratives and add them back in later! But what a write up! Savannah was actually one of my potential list so I can tick that off and reduce my workload by one! Haha!
Yes, i can see how copying that narrative may get annoying. For the purpose of the rolling list how about
An unexpected history making breakout year. Highest singles ranking in Appalachian State history at No 5. First App State player to qualifier for NCAAs, All-American and NCAA quarter-finalist. Carolina region co-champion. Full narrative in post 3

JonH I am in a conundrum! I see Mimi isnt amongst the end of season finalists. Is this where I would nominate her?. I would want to hold off a little to see how she gets on in her final tournaments of the year, notwithstanding that she may get a nomination for December.Thanks.

Absolutely. She hasnt qualified yet, Im afraid, she may do through December Pom vote but that takes place after this process closes. My recommendation is you post it here as a wildcard nomination and that way she is on the list; we can always update the narrative later. if she qualifies through December Pom , we just take her out of this. And all is good.
my recommendation is you add her to the list with a reason and put to be updated against it in the narrative!

That dreadful Americanism ensures he wouldn't get my vote

This wildcard nomination process closes 17th December . So you can hold off until nearer to then, of course !

Quick tip - don't get to the end of this and ask why someone wasn't nominated - everyone has different ideas and so, if you really rate someones season enough to see them on this list, then you need to do it yourself. And don't leave it too late. And, don't worry about stepping on someone's toes. If you think they should be here, nominate them anyway. The other person who's toes are not stepped on, can always edit the narrative and, more importantly, vote for them in the voting itself in a few weeks time!

I was seeing Mimi as an obvious missing candidate and was planning to nominate her if no one else got there first! (I just needed to check her achievements to put together a narrative and hadn't had time to do that yet. )
