Emily App would need to win the title here to gain points I believe and even then that would be only an extra 26 points.

However the points are tightly bunched in the rankings just above her and it would actually move her up an extra 4-5 spots so certainly worth doing.

I'm not sure if playing any tournament that you have to win to gain ranking points is a very wise idea to be honest. This tournament features Gadecki and Krunic who are ranked well above her too.

Well, there is cash to be considered too, not just points - and the UAE is quite generous in its add-ons, from what you read

A final/title would also be a useful backup counter to have in your pocket for 2026. So I can see why she's here especially being on the bubble for Melbourne.

It can't be for the prize-money. It's $3,344 to the winning pair and $1,672 to the runners up. So I hope the add-ons are good !

Emily doesn't drop any points until February, but then it is 255 off from three tournaments, so backup counters are good - her best is just 27.

Emily has hardly won a match in singles or doubles recently, so may well be a confidence booster - plus a bit of cash...

Why would Emily play here?
There's 2 weeks of tournaments
Accommodation is provided while she is competing
It's a warm weather training base with opportunities to compete
Emily prefers to play than have off weeks training
It's better than cold weather indoor training at the NTC
Any cash coming in helps mitigate the net cost of being here if there are other reasons for being here
It's a (long) stop over to going down under
There's bugger all else to play at this time of year

I don't know if any or all of these are her reasons for playing here but the point is sometimes there's more than ranking points that are the consideration in scheduling.

Well put, Lambda

As you say, there are plenty of other good reasons why players play, apart from ranking points

It provides her with ranking points for the next 12 months.

From 8-5* to 8-9* but got over the line. Another strong counter and will put Emily back into the British top 10.

That's great news. I'm out at the moment so can't easily check scores.
