Much as I enjoyed seeing Emily do well, I dont really have the history of her or being a fan so whilst I applaud it, it didnt leave a big mark, Im afraid.
Mika did much more for me in an outstanding month and so gets my vote.
Mika has won player of the month twice in her career; or tied it twice to be precise, in the time when we didnt do a play off. This is her third tie , therefore, for top space - can she win it outright.
Emily has never won it before - can she achieve it for the first time!?
I am sticking with Emily. She was playing 18 years ago when I first started commenting and copying results across I can remember some of her challenges. She often had to fund herself, not easy as a middle ranked player, and sometimes she stopped competing in order to boost her funds. She played tournaments in India and coached the hotel owner to get free accommodation. She fell ill in Australia, without health insurance and the airline refused to let her go on the flight home, so she was trapped there until she recovered. To see her now achieving a career high at the age of 41 due to shear persistence and love of the game is very inspiring to anyone struggling with their career. This may well be her last chance to win this award.

Thank you Peter, well said and well argued. And it makes it 4 votes all in the early 8 votes so far. All very tight once again!

The good news is that regardless of result in this vote, Emily and Mika are both guaranteed into player of the season - for Emily, that will be her first appearance in a PoS vote, I believe ( I need to check that!)
I went with Mika for having a bit of a breakout month, but I do admire what Emily has done, for all the reasons given by Peter. (And appreciate that summary of what Emily has faced and achieved during her long career. Thank you for sharing that.)
