It is the time of the year when Liverpool has back to back junior tournaments with a J30 and TE this week and a J60 next week.
Some interesting entries this week especially on the girls with the likes of April Sackflame, Grace Watson and a couple of other good U14's on the entry list.
Lola is 18 in a couple of months - early 2008 player. Not a stand out at all in my opinion but moves well and is getting some nice results. Wants to go to American uni so is focusing on ITFs.
The standout result to me is Naina beating Sophie. Sophie is very inconsistent but won the 18U national grade 2 yesterday and has been playing very well. Maybe tired today. However, Adaugo who won the 16U national G2 yesterday still got a good result today
That was an impressive score for Grace too against Jess Morrison (who has been an LTA pick for years, invited to the training camps abroad and receiving funding)
So, the BIG result in the girls yesterday was the young Mila Angrave (2012) thrashed April Sackflame (2012) who is top seed, at the elite academy a year early and the talk of the town
Rose (or anyone else), do you know anything about Mila? I see she's at Edgbaston but that's about all
Adaugo Nwogu's win over Judy Zhang is also noteworthy and confirms the good results she's been having
The boys followed the seeding pretty much
Two draws - 16 players - and only one foreign player - we've got this wrapped up GB
Mila is 2012 born and has quietly been having some good results. Won the Babolat cup last year and got through qualifying in last months J60 beating some quite good older players on the way.
Has been one of the LTAs selected players for 14U on the RPDC long list (funded to train at an RPDC) but have never heard her name mentioned as a long term prospect getting funding after next year
April beat her 3&1 this summer so was really surprised at that result.
Ive only seen Mila play once and she played very high and loopy a lot of the time. Put players off their stride rather than hitting loads of winners. Inconsistent too
However that was a while ago so may have changed considerably.
Adaugo is a very good mover and hits a nice ball. Judy beat her quite comfortably in the summer though so again was a bit of a surprising turn around. Adagio is coming off a great win though from the 16U G2 (some good, although not top, players in there) and has done well all year
