Week 44 - WTA250 JiuJiang - Hard

Amazing stuff. Looks like a good recovery in the tiebreak after missing a couple of match points at 6-5*. Incredible achievement.

Unfortunately that Wiki article only covers up to 2011, although the table of doubles finals us up to date.
Emily has confirmed to me that it is her first final.

The stats eg rankings are current though and include this final as pending , its just the narrative thats out of date.

Yes Em's biggest title is the Midland 100k she won with Julie Coin, she was still playing good singles at that time and the same week very nearly took out a young Osaka losing 7-5 in the third.

She's got various other ITF titles, a handful of WTA quarters, and that single semi-final on clay.

And now a final. One more year?

Turning out to be an unsual tournament. 17 year old Lilli Tagger WR235 [WC] will play Anna Blinkova WR95 in the singles final.

The top seed was WR33, and the top players were never going to be in this tournament.

If you remember, Lilli Tagger beat Hannah Klugman to win junior Roland Garros. That was her last junior event. This is her first WTA main draw and she saved triple match point in the semifinals.

I suspect even the editor of Emily's page didn't think the narrative worth updating. But of course any of us can update if we have a spare 30 mins!

Shame - but what a great week

Yes no shame in that at all. Fabulous to get that far and I thought Em played a good match. MTB just got away from them and as Wolf said Kat got a little in her own head. They could have won, but also they should have gone out in the opening round. So a brilliant week.

Em's first return was a screamer!

A great week. This will give Emily her highest doubles ranking since May 2023.
