That is a very good win...

A very good win. Ngounoue was world No. 1 junior and already Top 200. Although not setting the world alight like an Iva Jovic.

Excellent Mimi. Really didn't expect that despite playing so well in Wrexham.

It looks like Lily retired.

Not suprisingly Marni beat Ella, but it took 3 sets and a comeback in the third.
I see Lily and Rabah are slight favourites to win their matches.

Not the best of starts for Lily and Ranah. I was tempted by evens on Ranah before the start.

Lily 1-4*

Ranah 2-3*

And I now see that Lily has retired.

Ranah won the tie break and broke straight away, but has been broken back.

Ranah served for the match, one MP, but ended up getting broken and back to 5-5

A slightly dodgy start

But an inspired end to that TB

the forehand down the line was world class

Very nice passing shot

A super serve

...

Well done, Ranah

Yay, having been behind 0-3* in the RB, Ranah wins 7 of the last 8 points, finishing off in style with a super lob, an unreturnable first serve, and an unreturned first serve.

Ranah wins by 7-6(4) 7-6(4)

Our mystery doubles pair proved to be no match for Serban and von Deichman, managing just 15 points (mainly gifts) in their double bagel defeat.
If Lily is fit enough to play tomorrow, she and Freya should be looking to reach the SF.

Been said before about Ranah, but there is a really good player there if the elements can be brought together plus much more consistency.

Yes, given her family situation, the French Connection sponsorship, the whole back story, and what she's achieved - AND THEN the actual level of tennis skills she has - it's a crying shame that she's not higher ranked

She's always been one of my faves, her tennis seems to come so naturally

But I often think she hasn't quite got the schemas of play right in her head - which is a question of coaching too, which is a problem, one hears.

Yes, some very dodgy net approaches may be part of that. A time and a place ...
