I think Katie's story is great, and honestly she's probably way ahead of schedule, so her taking more time to do this is brilliant imo! Get games under your belt after so long out... No doubt she will go to higher comps when ready but not rushing it is far better than some who try to reach to high too soon after long injuries.
I read an article back in the Spring, when she returned to playing very low level tournaments, when she outlined that the goal was tennis with health, not healthy tennis. This is her last chance. I was so pleased to hear that.
As long as I have watched her play, since in late teens, she had touched her inter-costal muscles at times of stress, indicating a nagging pain from a weak spot. I mean every match .. after a long rally, or at the start of the 3rd set. It's a sign I know well from my own injuries.
Since she came back in the Spring, she is no longer doing that. So we are seeing a Katie for the first time who is playing without pain. Alex probably stayed with the Swans for a month in the States, and now Katie's Mum is over in Australia, staying with the Bolts. There seems to be a large element of enjoyment and playing without pain.
But Katie remains a fierce competitor and I think that after the families have taken this opportunity, that Katie will ramp up the competition level, as much as her ranking will allow (although I see she's booked onto a few more Aussie W35's yet)
Am I the only one that is confused by the fact that our two Katies both have Australian boyfriends called Alex?
Technically Katie B has an Aussie fiance, not boyfriend
To me, fiancé is a subset of boyfriends
Dont here the term used that often now, tend to hear partner.
Yes, but partner is far broader, isn't it? Covers everyone, those you've agreed to marry, those you might marry one day and those you're never going to marry in a million Sundays

... and those that one works with, owns property or a business with, or plays tennis with, and so on - partner is a dashed confusing term.

It always makes me think of someone you hold hands with on a primary school outing!!!!
Disappointing but a week off now. Hopefully just a bit of fatigue setting in (which is another issue with these 35ks, even if she is playing within herself it's still a lot of matches)
Watched the score tick over from the start of the 2nd set, it was clear that the first serve wasn't as effective, and Swan's service games were more drawn out, with plenty of break point opportunities for her opponent. There was a short MTO at *2-3 (iirc) which from the scoring pattern might well have been for Swan, nevertheless, she battled to a tie break, which itself was close fought. If it was to be a loss, then better it done and dusted in 2sets. It's been a great fortnight, two finals and 1 title, and another considerable rise in ranking position looming. Now, a well-earned week off until the Darwin double-header.
