Week 38 - WTA500 - Seoul, Korea Hard

I'm trying to work out what people are meaning by these comments. Is the sarcasm an attempt at irony, or are the comments just nasty. I'm not sure.

My comment was genuine that I wondered if Emma might have felt stress re the BJK Cup and that is what came out.

my other comment re being generous of spirit was one of self deprecation, call it irony if you like? Nothing else.

Being frank, I dont think I have ever done nasty here, and seldom in my life. So please dont take it that way.

It's not the first time she's been tearful for no obvious reason, beneath the surface she does seem quite troubled at times.

Thanks for making that clear. I didn't take it that way. I was genuinely unsure of what folks meant when making sarcastic comments. Emma does seem to exhibit confidence swings, like many tennis players, reflecting her emotions. I think it is entirely possible that she is worrying about what people think about her decision over BJK Cup. She has made the correct decision about playing the Seoul tournament rather than the BJK event, just as every player involved in BJK made their correct decision.

I did read elsewhere that she was upset at producing so many unforced errors but immediately afterwards calmed down and went on to win.

L16:- Tereza Mihalikova (SLO) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR66 (35+31) [3] def Irina Khromacheva (***) / Ashlyn Kruegar (USA) CR123 (19+104) 7-5 7-6(4)

A little rusty after their break, not quite as sharp as we are used to.

Tbf they were very short of wins even before. So will take that for now.

And 108 points for a WTA 500 QF is plus 27 on Olivia's lowest counter of 81.

Though I guess that doesn't change the fact that Emma has Krejcikova in R2, and it is now confirmed that Swiatek awaits the winner in the QF.

You chatting to yourself, Indy?! biggrin

I know what that is like with some of my trains of thought in other sections!

Emma loses an epic tie break to go into a decider

It's still a frustrating watch, Emma hasn't learnt yet that you can't surrender court position and expect to win more games .. she still playing mid court shorts when she's in good position .. and still is unable to place a volley as opposed to just getting it back.

Never mind, it's 1-1 and time yet to play to her potential

Emma led 5-2* in the second, had a match point at *5-3, then led *5-2 in the tiebreak and lost 4 points in a row. Had another two match points on return later in the breaker.

Whoops. Barbora has given us some heartbreakers against the Brits this summer. Hopefully Emma can find a way through the third.

After letting it slip from 5-2* in the second set ( I didn't see that bit ), I saw the TB which was solid from Emma for the first half and indeed initially when Barbora came back but got patchy towards the end. Has had 3 MPs, the first at *5-3 in games on serve, 2 on return in the TB.

Agree re surrendering court position quite a bit of the time and then scrambling to stay in points.

Onward in the third .. .

Emma had 3 match points but couldn't convert.

I watched the first set and although it looked close, Barbara was only getting a little over 40% of first serves in although she was making the most winners. In the second Emma seemed to be cruising then Barbora just went for it and suddenly is was a tie break. In the third Emma has just fallen apart lost 6-1 in the third. Now was it Emmas decision not to play in the BJK final? I wonder.
