phew, was worried about Katie playing a second match in the same day and woke up to find there had been a retirement in that match. So pleased to see it wasn't her (although I don't like to see players having to retire, full stop)
Great to see her back with 2 wins - fingers crossed that she can get another tonight against Barry. On paper it looks like a winnable match.
If she gets through, Cabrera is the Number One seed here and could be her semi-final opponent. She is a very experienced player, who is ranked 200 in the world at the moment, so that would be a real test for Katie. I'm probably getting a little ahead of myself here - very happy to see Katie get 2 wins so far and another 8 ranking points, which should move her up the rankings by around 20 places.

Lovely to see Katie win in under an hour. Cabrerea is the sort of opponent that Katie must be able to beat if she wants to make the top 100. Mind you, playing a good Australian in Australia does not count as a neutral venue. Three wins for Katie here though - so whatever happens, a nice start back after a few weeks away.

Very encouraging that she pulled up well after playing 2 matches in one day. Just over an hour on court certainly helps! Good week whatever happens in the SF.
3 good wins, no sets dropped, now into the semifinal. Without all the hard work over the last year, Swan would not be playing at this level. I reckon she is a significantly better player than a few years ago, based on performances over the last 4 months or so. It takes some doing, to practically drop out of tennis, and then fight back up through the rankings again. The sport always moves on, and the field is stronger and more competitive each year. Lizzette Cabrera, next up. Swan beat her comprehensively on grass in Wimbledon Qualies Rnd 1 in 2021. The Aussie played a long match against her Japanese opponent yesterday. Go Katie!

Hopefully with all Katie has been through she will become a significantly stronger player than at her previous best. She surely though as of now is understandably a fair distance yet from simply being stronger / better.
Let's hope she can stay fit, keep on building, and let's see where she can get to. Wish her all the best!
Katie went 3-0 down in the 2nd, broke twice to go 4-3 up, serving for the match at 5-4 she double faulted to lose her service. In the tie break she went 6-3 up, got pegged back, got a 4th match point and double faulted, saved a set point and finally got over the line on her 5th match point.
