Sonay dropped the second 4-6 and misses a couple of early break points

Brutal rallies. Suspect she's starting to run out of steam here but a lot of great stuff to take out this performance whatever happens.

Great effort Sonay. Hope she can have a nice Asian swing now, she was definitely playing back up a couple of levels from what we've seen on the US hard courts.

Sonay played well, but seemed to struggle a little physically as the 3rd set went on. It looks really humid there in the arena.

Yes, encouraging to see Sonay stepping back up her level again. Hopefully she can have a good end to the year.

Katie seeming much more relaxed and hitting the ball very well. Think the team environment does suit her and this could be just what she needed to get her head and her tennis back into a better place.

That's a great improvement on Sonay's previous meeting with Emma in 2023 when Emma won 2 & 1.

Katie played a brilliant set to take it 6-3.

She then went up 1-0 40-15* and Pegula looked really rattled, but the American dug in and saves the break points. And there's definitely a bit of a momentum shift

Katie broke and then played a couple of phenomenal points, but also hit a couple of doubles and was broken to 30.

Katie loses the second set 6-4. Had two individual break points at 4-5*, the first Pegula hit a good kick second serve out to the backhand which Katie netted, second was a strong first serve into the backhand.

Fine margins, but feels like Katie, just like Sonay, might have missed the small window of opportunity in the second set to get the job done.

This is a really good quality match. Katie is battling so hard, breaks back but is broken to 30 again

Belief just starting to fade, but I really hope this is still a bit of a turning point. Best tennis I've seen her play in months.

Certainly justified our SF place. Not far off, although I fear we would've lost the doubles either way. Good week, especially for Katie who seems to have found some form.

To complete the 2025 story, Italy won both singles vs USA, as they probably had to, to retain the cup.

Cocciaretto beat Navarro by 6-4 6-4
Paolini beat Pegula by 6-4 6-2

Italy 2 USA 0
