Fran is now up to 815 ranking points for the year, essentially points guaranteed for the Aus Open MD entry list.

With the current live ranked 100 on 764 points, she is looking very good already for direct entry.

Sonay and Katie are on 723 and 720 points respectively for the year so may need to add some points in the next couple of months.

It's not surprising at all. She's chosen here because she's playing Brazil next week - and she chose Brazil because she'll rarely pass up the chance to play in South America. Unlike Emily she's scheduled sensibly to minimise time zone adjustments and the tiredness and stress from travelling.

The trouble is that once a player reaches a certain level their schedule is pretty much decided for them, they have to follow the circus. There are so many tournaments mandated that they have little option. There is a bit of flexibility in that not all WTA1000 are mandated but players still have to play a certain number of the remaining WTA1000 and WTA 500 tournaments otherwise they end up carrying zero point scores until they have fulfilled the required quota.
