Excellent for Joe and Neal, really having a good run; Neal is now 7 and Joe 11 in the live rankings. If they win their semi, Joe will be 8 and Neal would be equal with Henry and Harri on points so not sure where he will stand from a count back perspective. As a pair, one more win would see them go up Henry and Harri in the Race and possibly into 3rd, it depends on Granollers and Zeballos.
I believe for equal points they determine who is "top" by seeing where the points have come from e.g 1000 masters points is better than runs at 500 tournaments.
Thanks Blue Belle - if that is the case, a final for Neal would take him just a touch above Henry and Harri based on grand slams alone, so he would go 5th and they would drop to 6th equal.
1st tie breaker is fewest number of tournaments played 2nd tie breaker is points from grand slams, mandatory masters and ATP finals 3rd tie breaker is highest points from a single tournament 4th tie breaker is 2nd highest points from a single tournament and so on.
Thanks Lambda - if my fag packet maths is correct, theyd be equal on tournaments played, Neal would have the edge on points from those events in tie breaker 2.
obviously, be easier if Neal and Joe just win the darn thing!
Id forgotten the time and not realised Neal and Joe are on. And a battle it is; lost the opening set 6-7, won the second 7-6. Final set just started, 2 hours 10 on the clock
Break up, 3-1. Keep those serves going lads. Theres been 5 breaks so far in this match, 1 in 6 service games so feels like there could still be more to come.
According to LTR, Neal stays 7th whilst Joe goes to 9th in the live rankings. The pair moves 3rd and, with the title will go 2nd in the Race behind Julian and Lloyd, joining them for sure in Turin.
Yeah, they had to save a break point to avoid going a double break down in the second set. Bhambri who is a great returner started struggling with his serve and Joe found a really nice rhythm on his out of nowhere.
In the third set they were constantly involved in return games and could have broken more than once. The only game when they had to survive break points themselves was when Neal served a few nervy doubles.
Special mention to the Sky tennis channel who at 0:03 and Neal & Joe about to serve for the match decided to switch to show some build up to the women's singles but said they would be back but only came back at 30-0 and without the commentators that had done the whole match.
SF: (7) Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski CR 25 (15+10) defeated (14) Yuki Bhambri & Michael Venus (IND/NZL) CR 57 (32+25) by 6-7(2) 7-6(5) 6-4
So, Cash (R)/Tracy or Granollers/Zeballos (5) in the final...
G and Z came through the other semi, so its a repeat of the FO.
with Julian and Lloyd, Henry and Harri and Arevalo and Pavic leading the race most of the year, its interesting to see these two pairs in a second slam final. Feels like these 5 pairs are really all quite up there as contenders and interesting to see how they all pan out for season end and tour finals etc?!

And three of the 5 pairs, 5 of the 10 players, are British.
Im another one who watched the 1st set and a half and decided to go to bed, surprised but delighted to see they found a way to turn the match around as it really looked done for. After 4 final losses this year i hope they can get this one over the line. They have really grown into one of the best pairs on the tour after a slow start, I remember quite a few comments on here in January and February questioning the partnership but since then they've found a great level of consistency and seem to go deep in almost every tournament.
A minor point, but I think Joe & Neal are the 6th seeds not 7th SC.
