Marcus could be the last Brit into the US Open and the last Brit standing!

Not so.  no  You're conveniently forgetting the youngsters (Mika Stojsavljevic, Hannah Klugman & Oli Bonding)!

So much for wolf's "break":

L16:  Tomás Machac & Matej Vocel (CZE/CZE) CR 265 (150+115) defeated (ALT) Karol Drzewiecki (POL) & Marcus Willis CR 174 (84+90) by 4-6 6-3 6-1  hmm

******

QF:  (7) Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski CR 25 (15+10) vs Tomás Machac & Matej Vocel (CZE/CZE) CR 265 (150+115)

Pity for Marcus. Good week after getting in as alts but it was fair enough from wolf in that you couldn't ask for a much better opportunity to reach a Slam QF. Just couldn't convert their "break".

Still, live rankings show Marcus at live 81, matching his October 2024 CH, and which should hold as his ranking as long as the Czechs don't now go and beat Joe & Neal.

To my mind, it will always be a pity about the Marcus tennis wasted years but hopefully he has still quite a bit more to come in rankings and Slam terms.
