Luke sitting in a new CH of live 27 at the moment; still early days here for the doubles (it seems weird being only in round 2 and end of week 1/start of week 2, so lots of players left in around him).
The Brits have helpfully been recognising that we might have got confused by the novel US Open doubles scheduie leading to many more than usual still being around at this time, so quite a number have gracefully left the stage early.
L32: (7) Joe Salisbury & Neal Skupski CR 25 (15+10) defeated (WC) Maxwell Exsted & Cooper Woestendick (USA/USA) UNR (0+927) by 6-4 1-6 6-3
L32: (ALT) Karol Drzewiecki (POL) & Marcus Willis CR 174 (84+90) defeated John Peers & Jackson Withrow (AUS/USA) CR 88 (27+61) by 3-6 6-3 7-6(13-11) in two hours & 5 minutes
Peers has this thing at the end of matches where he swings too hard at easy balls at the net and he missed twice late on there. I've seen it so many times over the years.
Some joy to end a terrible weekend as Marcus and partner get the win and go into the last 16!!
Brilliant! 13-11 MTB
Maybe it was just the matching kit, but Marcus and his partner looked as if they could be brothers
Marcus was the weakest player on court from what I saw of the final set, but his partner served brilliantly.
Don't know if Marcus currently has any input from Louis Cayer, but hopefully this run helps him towards a stable partner and maybe some more LTA input.
Joe and Neal versus the 9th seeds will be a hard one to call - I mean, they are all hard to call this event, but I wouldn't feel at all confident in this one for our guys.
Marcus and Karol (sorry if that is wrong, I havent really clocked the guys name yet!!) against Arevalo and Pavic, most likely - again, don't feel that will give us much.
Luckily a rest day today for the British pairs - but tomorrow could end up being the end of things
