Dani Piani, Kristina P and Billy Blaydes all lost in straight sets in the early matches.
Millie Bissett has withdrawn from singles and Millie and Eva from doubles. That may be a team decision as I think one of their team mates was seriously injured yesterday and they may want to return home to get her treatment - I speculate but somebody was stretchered away in an ambulance yesterday.
Luca Pow and Henry Jefferson qualified Derrick Chen+ and Alex Okonkwo+ qualified in doubles. Thomas Giles+ narrowly missed out on qualifying in a 9-11 MTB against the Q2 seeds.
We have no qualifiers in the womens. Erin Pearce+ was the only one through to the FQR and came close to qualifying losing a 7-10 MTB
On to the main draw [pq/q] Henry Jefferson (Florida) v [q] Jack Anthrop (Ohio State) Alex Okonkwo (Ohio State) v Jack Loutit (Kentucky) [q] Luca Pow (Wake Forest) v Jeremy Jin (Florida) Roan Jones (UNC) v [q] Connor Henry Van Schalkwyk (Baylor) Connor knocked out Will Jansen in the FQR
Roan has the most difficult potential route through to the QF for a NCAA place with the 2nd seed likely in the next round Luca, should he make it that far, could face the 6th seed in the round of 16 (3rd round).
Savannah Dada-Mascoll (App State) v [1] DJ Bennett (Auburn) Gabia Paskauskas (Florida) v Anna Zyryanova (NC State)
Tough draw for Savannah and Gabia. I think it's fair to say, barring a huge upset, our interest in the women's singles will switch to the consolation draw.
For doubles [7] Luca Pow/Szymkowiak (Wake Forest) v Baris/Forbes (Michigan State) Henry Jefferson/Nirundorn (Florida) v [6] Nhavene/Lacides (Oklahoma) Billy Blaydes/Freddy Blaydes (Auburn) v Velcz/Van Schalkwyk (Baylor) [q] Derrick Chen/Giamichelle (Georgia) v [q] Alezmeh/Rakhmatullayev (Michigan State) [3] Luc Koenig/Badenhorst (Baylor) v [q] Carpico/Filin (Ohio State) [q] Alex Okonkwo/Bernard (Ohio State) v Montsi/Frusina (Texas A&M) Good representation in men's doubles and probably our best chance for a NCAA qualifier
Savannah Dada-Mascoll/Manyube (App State) v [q] Perry/Chavez (Ohio State) [WC] Jasmine Conway/Zyryanova (NC State) v [q] Dmitrichenko/Hlahola (Texas Tech)

Savannah has a WTN on the LTA site of 13.3 which may account for her relatively high ranking. She has not played a tournament since 2021 where she was beaten easily in a Grade 1 event by a 12 1/2 year old Hannah Klugman! No ranking, just club leagues. Maybe she has been playing abroad?
However, I note that Savannah has won her match against the top seed 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

I very much apologise to Savannah for not believing. She causes what will be the biggest upset of the day and knocks out the No 1 seed and pre-season No 1 in 3 sets.
Well thats impressive ! I have never heard of her! Heading for a Google search!
eta - we have discussed her before, she floated between Halifax and Manchester as a kid learning tennis and her brother is a decent footballer as well, called Isiah.

In doubles 4 wins out of 6 for the men and 1 win out of 2 for the women
[7] Luca Pow/Szymkowiak (Wake Forest) won 5-7 6-4 [10-8] Henry Jefferson/Nirundorn (Florida) won against the 6 seeds 7-6 7-5 Billy Blaydes/Freddy Blaydes (Auburn) won 4-6 7-6 [10-7] [q] Derrick Chen/Giamichelle (Georgia) lost 7-6 1-6 [7-10] [3] Luc Koenig/Badenhorst (Baylor) lost 2-6 3-6 [q] Alex Okonkwo/Bernard (Ohio State) won 6-1 6-4
Savannah Dada-Mascoll/Manyube (App State) lost 6-7 4-6 [WC] Jasmine Conway/Zyryanova (NC State) won 7-6 6-1
---- L16: [7] Luca Pow/Szymkowiak (Wake Forest) v Svajda/Georgiev (SMU) L16: Henry Jefferson/Nirundorn (Florida) v Billy Blaydes/Freddy Blaydes (Auburn) L16: [q] Alex Okonkwo/Bernard (Ohio State) v [2] Pedrico/Rolland de Ravel (TCU)
L16: [WC] Jasmine Conway/Zyryanova (NC State) v [5] Webster/Mohr (Vanderbilt)
I am surprised the TCU duo are ranked so highly and thus the 2 seeds. Pedrico played doubles 3 last season and Rolland de Ravel is a transfer from ODU and although he won lots it was against relatively weak opposition. But somehow, by my rough mental calculations, they do have the 3rd best combined doubles WTN in the draw. For what it's worth Luca and partner have the 2nd best combined doubles WTN.
Through to round 2 we have Luca, Savannah and Gabia. Henry, Alex and Roan head to the consolation draw.
Who'd have thought this morning that at the end of the day we'd have more women than men still left in singles?
L32: Luca Pow (Wake Forest) v [9-16] Devin Badenhorst (Baylor)
L32: Savannah Dada-Mascoll (App State) v Josie Usereau (Arizona) L32: Gabia Paskauskas (Florida) v [6] Piper Charney (Michigan)
With the singles being at last 32 stage, how do they finish on Sunday? Do they play two rounds on one day? Seems poor scheduling if that is the case, given the weather seems fine?
