Shame Emma isn't in a bit of the draw that has totally broken down, but even if she is stopped by Rybakina these are some very useful points as she keeps climbing back to the top 30.

Yes, now live ranked 33 with her 130 points earned so far here. Just 108 points due to come off during the rest of the year ( Seoul 500 QF on 22/09 ). #27 in the live race.

One more win would take her well inside the top 30 in the live rankings.

Wow! Emma wins 6-2, 6-1 in exactly an hour. She's obviously in the mood this year.

Rybakina will start favourite but with Emma in this form it ought to be a lot closer than their last encounter.

Rybakina looked pretty ordinary in the second set - experience got her into the tiebreak. If both her and Emma play like they did in the second round Emma will win.

I sure hope so - Emma has been increasingly close to the bigger players and it would be amazing if this time she could win.

I came to the same conclusion. Emma was serving better and returning better than Rybakina. However Rybakina did say that wasn't her best match and she was happy to get through, so she may up her game for Emma. Emma's was getting nearly 80% of her first serves in with 8 aces and no DFs and on average she was striking Tjen's 2nd serves from 1.8 metres inside the baseline. That barely gives the server time to recover before having to strike the next ball.

Yes, and I didn't see all of both matches

But I did think that Valentova was playing a lot better than Tjen so it's not that surprising that Emma could get so close in on the second serve, say, or looked so much more in control

(Don't get me wrong, I thought Emma was playing very well, but just that it's difficult to compare given they had different level opponents)

The WTA not only fail to publish the qualifying draw for any of the Grand Slams they are now not even showing the main draw for the US Open. I did find an alternative version of the WTA site with a 2025 draw but it had the matches in an odd order with the result that it left Emma playing someone other than Rybakina in R3. Every time the WTA try to redo their site it ends up even worse than it was before.
