I haven't seen Sonay play on the hard courts, but is there any sense she might be protecting an injury. She pulled out of the Canadian Open - albeit it close to Wimbledon - but doesn't seem to have been at full throttle since.

Or miles out - early break to Brazilian (are we allowed to call her a drug cheat or did she have some weird excuse/have I got the wrong player)

IIRC the authorities accepted that it was contaminated supplements so she only got a short ban.

That is correct Steve - it was 10 months for unintentional use of banned substances in contaminated supplements. It was five years ago, so no need to bring it up again.

Apparently Fran and Eva practised together earlier.

Eva is on fire.

Fran loses 6-0 7-5

Still a good tournament and safely ensconced in the top 100.

Sad to see Fran lose but I thought Eva played a magnificent match. And how come she has so much support from the American crowd? They were all cheering really loudly for her.

Maybe they know Eva's backstory and mmedical condition?

Although, tbh, you'd cheer justcas much if not more for Fran in that case

Well that was a rotten day.

Katie sounding surprisingly optimistic afterwards but seems to have lost her way this year with the odd exception of her 125 clay title in Paris.

A very disappointing US swing for Sonay with her Monastir points soon to come off, she beat BHM comfortably in Indian Wells and had seemed to turn the match around only to cramp up in the third.

I fought Fran would have a close match with Eva but unfortunately the latter was peaking today. Hopefully she can consolidate her place in the Top 100 to make the Australia Open MD.

Not feeling optimistic about the BJK Cup, Emma playing well but she can't carry the team single handed.

A bad day at the office, but I don't think any of them were favorites to win.

Katie said she has been making adjustments to her serve, which has had a much broader impact on her play. I hope she takes a bit of time off, maybe plays some events out east where the courts suit her, and then a decent off-season break.
