Jodie's next opponent will be the winner of Rus v Martinez-Cirez. The veteran Dutch player was well up in the first set, before Cirez pegged her back and then lost her own serve.

The second set is close - the great news for Jodie is that this match looks like it is going to be very lengthy - heat and tiredness could well be a big factor here and Jodie will have a big advantage in the next round having finished her own match so quickly.

Arantxa Rus has been really sliding down the rankings this year, and although her results have been a little better of late, I am sure Jodie will fancy her chances if the 34 year old Dutch player does come through.

Second set was a walk in the park...
Hopefully, the confidence will start to return.

Rus beat Cirez 6-4 6-2 to set up a clash with Jodie. Jodie will fancy her chances of making the final qualifying round, I think.

Great to see Jodie finally get a win. Her bf in Us I think or was anyway so that may have helped?

Keep it up now.

Can we agree that that was a good draw for Jodie. But you still need to get the ball in court more often than your opponent.

And Rus is a good 2nd round draw. She's not been playing well this year. Appreciate that could also apply to her opponent.

Just heard the interview with Jodie.
Lacking in confidence, but the win will do her a world of good and she has good memories at the US Open

Really good play from Harriet in that set - some beautifully constructed points. Hopefully she can keep going.
