Wow this is turning into the worst us open swing in years.

Katie gets a much needed win

L32:- Katie Boulter (GBR) WR50 [7] [WC] defeated Yue Yuan (CHN) WR63 6-4 6-3

She says she would have loved to have played mixed doubles in New York, but had to prioritise singles.

From the scoring that looks a real tough battle, lots of break points, failing to serve it out. But she got over the line, well done Katie!

Katie was well down in the first set at one point, but battled back to get the first set - a much needed win and real boost to her confidence, which was probably near rock bottom before this win - if she can get past Golubic in the next round, then maybe she can start to feel a little better.

She is right to enter this tournament over the Mixed Doubles at the US Open - her form is so dire lately that she really needs the wins to restore both confidence and momentum. I was very happy to see the win happen - it was about 4 am UK time when she finally got through in the end.

QF:- Emily Appleton (GBR) / Isabelle Haverlag (NED) CR160 (79+81) v Anastasia Detiuc (CZE) / Miriam Skoch (CZE) CR171 (80+91)

Emily and Isabella beat Detiuc (+Kalshnikova) in Prague recently, but little in the way of past form togo on as the Czechs appear to be a new pairing (last match together was Linz in February)

Not the result we wanted. However, I think the decision to play this tournament was still the right one. She picked up a win and lost to a player who is really quite tricky and doesn't give you a lot of pace to play off. Not like she lost to a relatively unknown player. Not sure what the conditions were like but it has been pretty windy at this tournament.
