The restriction is 16 tournaments at 17 years old and unlimited at 18 years old. I think the limit of 16 tournaments is slightly onerous - this is Mimi's 16th since she won last year so she will be restricted until 02 October when she turns 18. Brooke has only played 10 (including ths one) so has some to spare before her birthday on 20 November.

I wasnt sure how close she was to the limit, but opportunity for Brooke. It will be very interesting watching these two over the next few months to see where they land in seniors before the grass season starts again. Transition can be tough.

It seems to me that Brooke has been greatly aided in her ranking by receiving a disproportionate number of wildcards in British ITF events.

You dont get points for a 1st round loss as a WC, so you have to win to get any points hence Brooke has earned it.

Plus she is also a top 100 junior so the pedigree is there.

I haven't counted her WCs so nothing about Brooke personally

But it's not quite fair to the others to say a player who gets a lot of WCs has earned the points because she's got the wins

After all, if she hadn't got the WCs, she'd never have had the opportunity to get the wins. And the others might have got just as many wins, or more, if they'd had the same WCs

(Again, this is in the abstract, don't know about Brooke's WCs)

Yes I agree CD. Juniors always get a larger share of wildcards than adult players. This explains why players returning from US unis often take longer to rise up the rankings

Slow start from Brooke. 1-5 down in the first set when I checked her progress. Eventually lost the first 6-3. Second set is a different story 2-1 on serve, great first serves and much more aggressive. Come on Brooke!

Allez, Brooke !

Julie B is known for being a bit flakey

Brooke was 5-2 up in the second, but Julie got it back to 5-4, when Brooke sprayed a few balls.

Then served to hold - and it was always going to be tough

So Brooke won the second 6-4

And is playing good, attacking tennis

Brooke has a break early in the third, and battled so hard but is pegged back by Julie. Now back on serve. Goodness she is fighting hard!

Brooke breaks back 3-1. Now you need to hold your serve Brooke and thats a long way back for Julie in the third.

And she does 4-1.

Yes. She has good intensity and intent on each ball.

Meanwhile, Millie has lost the first set

Lily won her first set but is making hard work of the second

Brooke's returning is really excellent! Impressed. Coach seems supportive too. I liked her joke about being too short after a lob, and seemingly blaming a parent courtside!

Brooke two points away from a super victory!

I believe her dad, Wayne, was just 5 foot 7, very short for a pro player who made top 100 easily - and he was considerably taller than her mum in photos! So both parents are guilty!

And she does it 6-1 in the final set. Convincing! Well done Brooke.
