week 32 - WTA1000 - Cincinnati, USA Hard

Thanks for the correction

In fact, the same issue means Kalinskaya is ahead of her, so she needs to beat Sabalenka.

Depending on which live site you go to.

this seems the most up to date?

Live WTA Ranking

Emma is currently in 34th place so would be seeded as 2 players have already withdrawn. If she doesn't beat Sabalenka it will all depend on other players not winning 1 or 2 matches.

Emma currently on 1426

Wang 1398

Sramkova 1392

Kudermetova 1376

Joint is on 1301 and Bouzas Maneiro 1299 so a way back on the other contenders.

Fingers crossed she will hold her place.

Who is the other alongside Zheng to have withdrawn?

Players withdrawn from US Open so far are Quinwen Zheng, Danka Kovinic and Paula Badosa

So Jack has lost his mixed double partner again?

 Harriet Dart is probably free.

Wang plays 2nd seed Gauff next, Sramkova plays 31st seed Linette and Kudermetova plays 17th seed Bencic. Bouzas Maneiro would need two more wins but that would include beating the winner of Emma and Sabalenka. Joint also needs two wins, she has just beaten the 18th seed, she next plays the 12th seed and if she wins that then probably the 5th seed. So Emma has a chance of surviving at her present live ranking.

But would Harriet get a "Wild" card ? wink

I guess it would depend upon whether Jack is wearing aftershave

I don't really take all the live ranking figures as gospel in the current state of flux.

But anyway, taking the live-tennis figures for now, with Gauff beating Xinyu Wang, Emma survives into the L32 stage as live ranked #34 ( #32 excluding Zheng and Badosa ).

Re Emma's possible seeding: Wang and Sramcova lost.
Kudermetova would have to beat 16th seed Tauson.
Krueger would need to beat 7th seed Paolini, Linnette would probably have to beat 4th seed Pegula,
Joint would have to beat 12th seed Alexandrova and then probably 5th seed Anisimova.
Bouzas Maneiro would have to beat Townsend and then the winner of Emma and Sabalenka.

Kudermetova looks the only realistic threat.

Corrected Paolini's seeding.

Lucky women's high seeds are so predictable

Thanks though and here's hoping!

And obviously Badosa pulling out means that Jones is one step closer to being in the main draw.

Emma is 2nd on Centre Court after Bozas Maneiro so around 17.30 or later.

It's a pity Kasatkina and Haddad Maia are ranked high enough to be seeded because they never seem to win any matches these days.
