week 32 - WTA1000 - Cincinnati, USA Hard

Indeed, their 11th R1 defeat in their last 14 tournaments.

But shortly before that they earned 650 ranking points from being Indian Wells RU and then had that WTA 500 title in Berlin

Been less consistent this year, but have won these big points on occasions and overall moved up the rankings.

 Thare also 1-4 in MTB's over that period, the only success being the one in the Berlin final against Errani and Paolini.

Emma won 70% of her 1st serve points and 73% of her 2nd serve points. After the first game she just wasn't giving anything away, the ball kept coming back.

Back up to WR33 on live rankings - but 6 players can still overtake her with a win or two - it's all very close pointwise.

US Open seeding watch.

Presently 31st seed at the US Open as Kessler set to drop a lot of points this week.

Kessler needs 154 points: Faces McNally then Navarro.

Wang will overtake her with a 2nd round victory over Coco Gauff.

Sramkova (Linette then Pegula), Kalinskaya (Stearns then Anisimova) and V. Kudermetova (Bencic then Tauson) will need to reach the last 16.

Joint (Alexandria then Anisimova) and Bouzas Manerio (Townsend then Sabalenka) would need to reach the QF.

I think she's going to make it, but a favour from Vondousova tonight would be handy!

 Being optimistic I think the best option would be for Emma to beat Sabalenka and not to have to worry about anyone else's results.

They met in Indian Wells in 2024 with Aryna winning 6-3 7-5.
They met at Wimbledon in 2025 with Aryna winning 7-6(6) 6-4.

Just on Kessler, her WTA Cleveland 250 title points from last year come off on 25/08, too late to effect the US Open seedings which will be based on the 18/08 rankings.

And her WR 32 on 1475 points in the latest rankings update does allow for taking off her 100 points from last year's Landisville title.

So she remains ahead of Emma for possible US Open seeding.
