Not a bad replacement to have, especially on clay.

Grace played singles today

But lost 6-2 6-3

From the bits I saw, it was quite a classic clay match, lots of long rallies with not much going on, but the Japanese player being a little more solid, a little better in placement, and a little better at doing something with the shorter ball (basically a bit better )

Megan had the devil's own job to beat the 12 year-old from Japan

Ended up in two tiebreaks

Not sure clay is Megan's best surface - well, I hope not

Now down to the doubles

.... and Megan/Grace came up trumps in the doubles. The end result is 2 wins for both GBR and Chinese Taipei (who beat Venezuela 3-0). Both nations qualify for the quarter-finals and tomorrow's match determines position in the quarter-final draw. The winner will take on a second place team in another group

Grace Watson lost to Nana Ononzawa 2-6 3-6
Megan Knight beat Shina Okuyama 7-6 7-6

Ironically the Korean number No. 2 has won all three matches, and the No. 1 lost all three, so all set for another doubles decider.

Luckily the best Korean player by a country mile has decided not to play this team event

So, let's take advantage, les filles !

Sofia lost, 3 & 4

Meg won, 2 & 4

so it's all down to the doubles (again) which will be Meg and Grace
