Week 32 - ITF M25 - Roehampton, Great Britain (hard)

Id forgotten how much it slows the game down when the players have to retrieve their own tennis balls! Taking CDs advice and watching for a while - may switch to Hannah Klugman later if I have time. Indiana seems spot on as usual. When Henry is at his best its pretty awesome stuff, but he also throws in some completely inexplicable errors at times. Very hit and miss. Must be so frustrating for him and his coaching team.

2 breaks in a row against Henry, the last of which was truly awful! 4 huge UEs in a row.

Yes, the first half of the set was really super, and then Henry seemed to go AWOL a bit - as is his wont

As you say, it's frustrating

He's young, yes, but.....

I'll come back if there's a third set ....

Maybe. I don't trust Searle not to have seemingly unexpected losses or wins. He is still very unpredictable.

Yep, looks like you called this one right - he is getting comfortably beaten at the moment. I underestimated his walk about tendency and Harry W as well!

James Story currently on top in the other early QF match

Not sure about 'comfortable beaten' smile

It's very close this second set - and the boy who plays down also plays up

Can't help it - have fingers crossed for James Story - who is one of the 'other' lads I've always liked - and never really taken to Oscar after I saw some highly dodgy line-calling in juniors

It must be just when I tune in

The second half of the second set was, again, a thriller - both boys playing really high level

And Henry just squeaked it

So it's into a third set

hard not to see past Tarvet v Searle and Jubb v Story - I reckon Tarvet and Searle is a real 50/50, but Jubby should be getting through this

It is a really interesting field left in, have to say

Well, I lost confidence but Henry came through, and James did easily. Jubby is a set up on Ben, but Ben has a break set two

Yep, you shouldn't have wavered, Jon

Honestly, I saw two blocks of 15 mins of the Harry/Henry match, and it was just top notch - from both

Shame they both couldn't win

Henry will get the consistency better over time (I'm guessing it's never going to be one of his strenghts though )

QF:  (2) Paul Jubb WR 408 defeated Ben Jones WR 652 by 6-2 4-6 6-3

Paul still struggling to kill off matches he should be winning with relative ease in straight sets...  no  Ollie, meanwhile, is breezing through his match.

*****

SF:  (6) James Story WR 553 vs (2) Paul Jubb WR 408

Semi with James will be v interesting. Paul should win, but as you say, Paul isnt making life easy and this feels like a 3 setter all through it!

Ollie less assured in the second set, dropping his service a couple of times.
