Week 32 - W35 Roehampton, Great Britain - Hard

Well done, Alicia

Soft spot for that girl's tennis

Sorry it had to be at the expense of a Brit but lovely for Alicia to make the QFs

With 5 points from Tunisia last week and 8 points so far this week Alicia (CH 1118) will be up to 25 points which should be very close to being top 900. She will be just ahead of Brooke who with 4 points here will be up to 24 points which should also be a CH for her (current CH 943).

Very surprised with Mimis loss.

Didnt think much of Victorias game from watching her matches last week so this does shock me. Kiddos to Victoria though.

Happy for Millie. I keep waiting for her big breakthrough at this level.

Hopefully get a good idea of where Hannah's level is after the next round

A 16 year old with a JCH=3 versus and 18year old with a JCH=20. Through actually Hayu is no longer a junior. An intriguing match, will their senior or junior credentials win out?

Two of the singles semis have kicked off

Am very hopeful that Millie R can beat Abe who has been anything but impressive this week (although annoyingly resilient)

haven't watched Ku this week yet - so will do now

Two double faults in the first game doesn't help Millie's cause though :(

(I'm not a huge hater of DFs, they're only errors, like any other, and if they come off aggressive serving, that is bearing fruit, it's fine, but it's a real shame right at the start)

But errors abounding :)

1-1

The Korean girl has a 'light', slightly slow arm but elegant sort of tennis

Millie will be disappointed

It's true that Abe started off far better in this match than in her previous two - which probably is to Millie's credit - Abe knew she had to kick in from the start

But Millie has a lot of points where she's in the driving seat - and she can't close them out

For someone who's a good doubles player, she's pretty poor in the forecourt - which is suprisingly common - it's the transition - she's a little slow moving up and then backs off

And the UEs cost her dear - she has a more aggressive game, it's reasonable she goes for her shots, and it's easy from a distance, but it's the balance - and Abe is only WR 350 or so (and pretty much correctly ranked from what one can see and her results sheet)

Yes - she was disappointed - for context - she had an issue with her right arm which affected both serving and fore hands  - probably  over use in the last weeks - she has played County Cup followed by  both weeks at Roehampton inc doubles - she had a medical time out after the first set - she said her arm felt like lead - anyway we move on ... good win against Lily yesterday so not all bad ...
