Week 32 - W35 Roehampton, Great Britain - Hard

Victoria Allen WR 805 is now up 15 points and about 100 ranking places since the last issued 28/07 rankings.

Getting quite close to her CH 671 from April 2019 when she'd not long passed her 18th birthday. And she has just 2 points due off in the rest of the year ( at the end of October ).

Might give Mimi quite a decent match.

Worth pointing out (LTA - you listening?) that Vic is only in the main draw here because she made the final of a W15

Really? Goodness - who's have thought a W15 could be so useful ......

Hard work - NOT a pretty set of tennis

But Hannah takes it, 6-4

I've not been around all week and just catching up, but disappointed to see there isn't a livestream on the ITF site. Surely we usually get one!

She then rounds off a much simpler second set, winning 7-5 6-1. Bit surprised by the result and the scale of it, given Mimi's pedigree...but I didn't watch the match.

[SE] Victoria Allen GBR d. [7] Mimi Xu GBR 7-5 6-1

Victoria then gave Mimi quite a decent match indeed!

Hannah played a super tiebreak - which was much needed as there wasn't much else in that set that was super

But all that matters, I guess, is that she got the win and is into the QFs

And, yep, Indy - you called that one

Didn't see a ball of the match so don't know if Mimi was hampered by anything or Vic was just better

Hannah isn't defending any points from this week (although she does have 4 points for a R2 at Aldershot next week)

So this will be 8 additional points, and get her back up to 625 or so, when they go on

Also, Manon Leonard - second seed and expected to make the QFs - lost

So Hannah now gets the 18 year-old Japanese girl, who was JR 20 about 18 months ago, and is about WTA 495 in adults

Don't remember her at all from juniors so it'll be interesting

Mimi will have a lot of points to defend, she won Aldershot last year.

Ciara went 4-0 up in the first set, then it all went pear shaped and she lost in straight sets.
Alicia and Brooke are into a decider.
Naiktha has taken the opening set

It wasn't really Ciara's fault

Abe played like that against Ruby too - sprayed the ball around, looked as though she was there for the taking - and then suddeny clicked to when she needed to

Rather irritating to watch, and probably irritating to play too

But not a huge amount that Ciara could have done

With the second seed having lost, I was hoping the top seed would lose (I like Sarah RR but she's in the UK now, sorry Sarah ) - she didn't play well in her R1 match

But it looks like it's heading for a third set

 So, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th and 7th - all gone

(And the 1st and 4th not guaranteed, either)
