Did anyone watching notice any zoom-in on Emmass box? Who was supporting her? It seems Mark Petchey was actually commentating for tennis Channel last night. Prior unavoidable commitment. I know hes only with her when he can be, but commentating on her match tough for all I imagine.
Oh dear. Thought Emma might have got a bit closer to Amanda. However after watching Amanda after her Wimbledon defeat it is so good to see her recovering and playing with the freedom she showed to reach that Slam final. Now if she can get to play Iga and beat her in two that would be true redemption. Good luck Amanda.
Emma ran into an opponent at the very top of her game. The big difference was that every time Emma hit a return which didn't put pressure on Anisimova it came back very hard and well placed. Invariably if the rally got to 5 shots you knew which way it was going.
Hard to say what she could have done differently in that match.
Yowch, not the result I wanted to wake up to. However, judging by the comment Amanda played lights out and Emma played well so I'm not too discouraged. I wonder if not having Petch in her box impacted, but if so it's just something her team is just going to have to work out. For me the biggest thing is that she seems to have a stable team now, and has no big injuries hampering her.
Yeah, noone beats Animisova if she plays like that for a whole match.
However it would have been interesting to see if she'd have maintained that standard if Emma would have held in game 2 of the first set (from 40-0) and then broke like she did.
I watched the first 4 games before l succumbed to sleep and Emma was playing very well indeed, and Anisimova was playing unstoppable tennis .. I expected to wake up to 2-6, 5-7 .. so I am disappointed but Emma knows she has work to do to get to top 10, and it isn't going to take just a week or a month to do that work, it's going to take months. I just hope she can avoid a top seed in the next couple of tournaments so she can play enough matches to continue up the rankings to 20 something which is where she is right now

Onwards (and hopefully upwards) to Cinci.
What she doesn't have is a stable team and Petchey himself says she does at least need to bring in another coach, to be around when he can't be, or possibly as the one main coach going forward.
Admittedly she has generally been doing well with things as they are, but it must be much less than ideal say yesterday, however well Amanda played. It needs sorted in the coming months.

Does anyone know for sure whether we are going to have a rankings update before Cincinnati, in particular a rankings update that is going to be relevant re the Cinci seeds? OER indicates that the WTA rankings will not be until 11/08 ( she is live ranked 37 for then, taking off Washington 2024 and adding Cinci 2025 ).
With Emma currently official WR 33 at 28/07, if these are the rankings for the seedings then she would no doubt be seeded with at least Zheng not playing. So the schedule change would definitely benefit her with her Washington QF points from last year not yet off.
