Emma served really well and got plenty of cheap points and really went after the second serve.
Stearns levels went up in the second set and really put Emma under pressure and was serving at 4-3 and then I fell asleep.....

Essentially, Stearns level remained high, but Emma raised hers higher - there were flashes of top 10 tennis

Great news to wake up to.

Toughie next but I feel like this is one Emma will win.

Ditto Servatron. Winning can get to be a habit.

Servatron - nice name !  biggrin

I watched the first set and some of the second before faling asleep. Best I've seen Emma play for a while with plenty of attacking groundstrokes andputting a lot of pressure on Stearns serve.

Plenty of movement in the live rankings around the 30-40 mark. Emma is down 4 to 37 despite her win, but it is all very close and a couple more wins (hereor in Cincinnati) will take her back up into a seeding position again.

I think she will need at least two more wins, in either venue to get seeded for the US Open.

Points off in the next four weeks has her at a live "33" so she needs to overtake at least one and keep the others behind.

Zheng is not listed for the US Open so that's "32"

Badosa participating in no events prior could also see her vulnerable.

Liv and Tereza's match has just started on an almost deserted court 9. Stream available - I'm watching on the sky sports app.

R1/L32:- Tereza Mihalikova (SVK) / Olivia Nichols (GBR) CR55 (29+26) lost to Barbora Krejcikova (CZE) / Jelena Ostapenko (LAT) CR156 (153+3) 3-6 (6)6-7

Struggled a bit in the first set, but competitve in the second. 65 points to 66, but not the ones that mattered.

Coco Gauff is making a meal of her progress in the Toronto Masters.
Winning both her opening rounds 2-1 with game counts of 18-17 and 17-13, she is making it a bit harder than she needs to.

However the draw is parting like the seas.
Her second match (R3) was seeded to be Olga Danilovic (29) but she lost in round 2.
Her fourth round match should have been Diana Schrader (14) but she was eliminated in round 2 by a non seed, and so was Sofia Kenin (23), so Gauff will face a non seed in Round 4.

And with the 7, 12, 18 and 23 seeds in the next draw section down all falling at their first hurdle, there will be no seed in the QF either.

And Mirra Andreeva (4) just fell so her SF opponent will be either Emma Navarro (8), Elena Rybakina (9), Marta Kostyuk (24), McCartney Kessler (28), Dayana Yastramenska (30) or non-seed Jacqueline Christian.

Yeah but Coco had a poor grass court season, she hasn't had a brilliant start to the US hard court swing and she is struggling here. The women beating her have better form at present. She took a long break doing a lot of PR, concert going etc. I just wonder if she is bit burnt out?

Emma's match is early Saturday morning. She is 4th on Centre court with the match before hers starting not before midnight, UK time, so she is unlikely to start much before 1.30am.
