From what I saw of the Katie match yesterday, she was clearly a better tennis player than Zarazua, but lacked confidence in herself and made a lot of dreadful errors.
In the second set when she calmed and slowed down and trusted herself to win long rallies without trying to win them, she seemed to be better on top. I turned it off and when I turned it back on she was down 3 match points.
If I were her I'd drop out of Cincinatti and go play one of the 250s on at the same time to get some confidence back. To experience winning again, and to work through some of the issues she's having.
I wasnt really reading anything into it, but actually Maya Joint is an exciting player to watch , when shes having a good day. But my post was really just remarking that someone I like had beaten someone for whom I still harboured some , I suppose dislike. i m not keen on her in the same way I was not keen on Serena when she was beaten by Naomi. Neither were gracious, to put it mildly.

Tbf, well at least in my opinion, Leylah was nowhere in the Serena scale and in fact I think didn't totally understand the Emma bleeding situation if you largely / partly mean her moans when Emma needed treatment at a crucial point near the end of their final
Naomi's winning experience was tarnished. Emma's certainly wasn't.
Reigns in the errors. More height, more margin. Basic stuff, but makes a difference immediately.
3-2*
Your criticisms are quite scathing, albeit largely accurate. However they would be a lot less grating if you were not making mistakes while criticising other peoples errors. Reining in errors is referring to taking control of a horse with the reins, not ruling over them like King Charles is nominally supposed to be. Basic stuff, but makes a difference.

31 minutes. Loses set and need toilet break. Call me a cynical old git but really this needs addressing in the women's game.
Maybe she has her period.
Indeed and I fully accept that. I would add though that I don't often see women leave the court after winning the first set in a short time.
Back to the tennis, Katie is clearly struggling right now. Her game depends so heavily on her serve though and if that is missing, as it is, then she really has no strong back up plan.
She's made some honest comments about her game in recent weeks and maybe she needs a bit of a break from the game. perhaps after the US hard court swing she should take a few weeks off. But then tennis is so often a game of confidence and maybe she's just one good or lucky win away from getting that back.
Its much more likely that a woman loses a set due to being on her period than wins one, so not really indicative of gameswomanship. I would suggest that if you are going to slap yourself across the face a few times out of frustration at your own performance. Then its better to do it in private.
Bit of a seed massacre going on.
15 matches in round 2 completed and the seed is out in 8 of them. And Maya Joint V McCartney Kessler completes the top half today and I wouldn't bet against Joint making that 9-7, especially considering she's already beaten Fernandez who by ranking (would now) be seeded.
Random variance, or the first round bye meaning they're playing an opponent who is much more acquainted to the court?

The player is not supposed to go off the court because she's lost, whether she's on her period or not
That's gamesmanship (although everyone does it)
A player on her period may absolutely need to go off the court after the first set, as Coco etc indicated, to get changed.. But that's nothing to do with whether they won or lost
Just to add, I don't really have a problem with the breaks. A lot of mtos are gamesmanship. Sabalenka was very upfront about one of hers.
As long as the playing field is level, it seems like part of the game

I'd suggest a copy of the Oxford Modern English Grammar might be a good investment.

There certainly is. Coco was lucky to get through too. I wonder if it is down to a lack of playing time since Wimbledon for some of the top players.
Also, not sure if it is my eyesight but the bounce seems to be quite high on these courts.
