Reckon if either Emma or Elena win today, they're withdrawing from the doubles.
You might be right but I hope they don't withdraw as it looks to be doing them both some good. However if either of them have a match which goes to 3 sets then they may feel that to preserve energy is more important than playing relaxed tennis.
If she stays fit this could turn out to be Emma's first full year of tennis. So far this year she has won more matches against top 100 players than any previous calendar year, 17 this year against 16 in the whole of 2024.
Early days and I wont be able to watch much more. Emma looks less fresh / good than yday and Maria looks more locked in than she has been for a while. Think it could be tough!
Nicely done Emma. Always looked fairly in control even when she was down in the second. Nice to come back and take it in two rather than have to do it via a third set in that heat.
Another great performance. Through the swings back and forth in this match she maintained her strength of will. Ultimately they were well matched but Emma shaded it because of her willpower. What a change from the buckling Emma of last year
Emma wasn't playing quite up to the standard of her match against Osaka but I think the heat was getting to both of them, a good win against an in form opponent.
Live ranked 32.
If it wasn't for the weird schedule of the next two tournaments, she'd have been seeded, but I think she might need one more win to be seeded for the Cincinnati.
She just mentioned being wobbly at the end of that game. I think she's going to withdraw from the doubles.
Oh lordy lordy, I had to take a break in the middle of that and go for walk around the garden. Emma was wise to call trainer and have a bit of break, check over, and cool down also. I suspect it pissed Maria off a bit but she didn't complain. Good match, in many ways Maria had some superior skills but Emma was confident and clever and made it in the end. Thrilled for her.

Rybakina isnt even on court yet. Her singles match isnt scheduled until 21.00. It wouldnt be fair to then ask her to play doubles immediately afterwards. I think they may reschedule anyway.

She's got a fair break, for good or bad, before any possible doubles SF, with Elena's singles not due on until after the upcoming Medvedev vs Moutet match.
Seemed like tricky playing conditions. Emma a long way from being fluent, fairly passive most of the time, Maria fluctuated from impressive to awful, went for her shots, some landed, some didn't.
Untidy opening service game from Raducanu. Two dfs, saved a bp, 3 times had game point, ultimately broken. Twice Sakkari errors handed Emma a chance to break back only for her to make poor errors, then a super forehand return winner from Emma for a 3rd bp, Maria helped her with forehand error into the net for the break back *1-2.
Another long Sakkari service game, this time Maria survived without facing a bp, thanks to Emma being unable to do much against the 2nd serve. A couple of aces as Emma held for 3-3. Maria saved a bp with an ace then twice got to A- with good play only to waste it with errors, yet more errors gave Emma another break, a reasonable forehand passing shot that Maria volleyed into the net. *4-3
A superb backhand return winner from Sakkari to force bp, Emma saved with a good f cc, then proceeded to df twice to gift Maria the break back 4-4
From 30-30 Emma punished two 2nd serves for another break *5-4. Raducanu 2nd serve ace for 40-15 and a good T 1st to take the set 6-4
Comfortable holds from both until Emma served at *2-3. She saved a bp with a good T 1st, had game point, wasted it with a poor f error into the net, df, good 2nd serve saved the bp, rubbish from Emma to hand another bp to Maria, who wasted it with a dreadful b cc into the net, another error from Emma, Maria finally broke after a good f cc 2-4*
Emma looked on course to break back straight away after Maria started the game with two dfs but a careless b cc just wide from Raducanu on the 2nd bp, then two aces for *2-5
Serving for the set Sakkari made three errors to go down 15-40, saved both bps with good serves, then Emma agg f cc for another chance to break, saved by Maria with a f after a 1st, good play from Raducanu forced yet another bp, taken with a super backhand return winner *4-5
MTO for Emma. Hold to love for 5-5. Rubbish from Maria for 0-30 then twice followed 2nd serves with f winners off underwhelming returns, then blasted her next two forehands out of play for the break *6-5. Nice angled forehand drop shot from Emma and a rare f cc winner for the win. 7-5
Ugly match but the conditions probably influenced that.
