I think it's good for Emma's singles all this doubles, also good for the mixed at US Open. Infact I wondered if that's why she is playing dubs - to get in training for playing with Carlos !! I hope he is doing the same.
I can see Carlos and Emma pulling out of mixed. Carlos has withdrawn from Toronto and protecting a minor injury.

Sakkari is Emma's "bunny," to use a cricket term. Good chance for her to make the final here
Yes Emma has a good chance of reaching the final with the seeds being beaten, the latest being Pegula. If Emma beats Sakkari she could play an opponent from the past in Clara Tauson. We could have a repeat of the 2021 US Open final as Leylah Fernandez is still in the top half of the draw.
wouldn't that be interesting ..
Yes, her last meeting with her old junior adversary Tauson was in the 2021 WTA 125 Chicago final, immediately prior to that 2021 US Open. Now, having followed very different paths since 3 weeks after that meeting, they are both making big strides at the same time.
Another win or two here and decent results in Montreal and Cinci, and Emma wont be far off a seeding for the USO? In fact another win here will see her around the seedings I think?

Though another win in itself wouldn't cover her Washington QF points from last year, due to come off in the following rankings.
So she would need to keep going beyond the SF here and/or get some wins in Montreal and Cinci.

Yeah, Id seen your comment on that a few posts above. Nonetheless, she is there or thereabouts and the chance is there.

Although I see with those 108 points dropping off, shed fall back to around Sonays ranking. Its tight around that 30/50 range!
I read above that she just had her hitting partner, Alexis Canter, here.
I wonder if Alexis is pretty new. He was a pretty good junior, JCH 50. Then over the years I've observed him regularly playing all over the globe trying to make strides in the pro game but 'just' reaching a CH of 773. He's played a fair amount if less extensively this year and was in Nottingham Challenger qualifying earlier this month. Now aged 27.
He would probably be a good level challenging hitting partner for Emma if this is going to be an ongoing arrangement.

Interesting - and pleased for Alexis, if he's managed to find a way for his tennis to be a viable career
Alexis is right-handed, has a two-handed backhand and was ultra well-trained, I think he had Josh Goodall as his personal trainer for a while, if I remember right - and I always got the feeling that his parents had put a lot of money into it.
Which is good for your standard day-in-day-out training partner - you don't want a quirky guy, a lefty, someone who only hits slice backhands or basically has a net game, or whatever - you want standard, technically correct, good level hitting
I also think that Alexis is quite well-to-do (it's neither a good nor a bad, and I may be completely wrong, but it was my impression) and I think that may well suit Emma

And just ask Andy ......
Haha. Yes, it wouldnt surprise me also. If they dont play, I guess wed have no Brits? Katie and AdM are not inside the cut and Id be surprised if they had the appeal in the US to get a wildcard for this made for TV style event?

I think Emma likes to have people around her with quick minds. Whatever she prefers she seemed comfortable on court when he was the only one in her box which is great.
