Boys & Girls: Wimbledon under 14 Invitational Singles, grass (week 28

We have 4 girls in this invitational event, with Liv Zingg joining the three who qualified directly (Grace Watson, Milica Sakamoto Milojevic and April Sackflame).  The girls draw is here

The boys draw is here, with the only Brits being Myles Kiely and Haqim Kamal, who qualified at the tournament held in the East Gloucestershire Club in early June.

The format involves 4 round robin groups of 4 playing 3 matches in 2 days (boys play twice tomorrow, girls play twice on Friday). Semi-finals, finals and positional matches take place over the weekend.

There are some top notch girls in the 14U here - as it to be expected

Worth remembering that last year the 14U was won by Jana Kovackova who is now 10th in the world in all juniors !

Yeri Hong and Sakino Miyazawa are two big names from Asia

And Sofiia Bielinska has had a lot of press, from Rick Macci, amongst others

I don't know the boys names so well....

Looking forward to seeing how April Sackflame in particular gets on being a 2012.

Vuckovic won Les Petits As this year and Rafael Pagonis has won a few top titles in TE and I think is ranked No1 (or was at one point this year). Would be nice if the British boys can be in the mix too.

Are there fewer British players in this than last year?

Not sure but I think Britton, Knight and Lorimer, Pickerd-Barua and Watson played. Might be missing someone though..

Enjoying watching a bit of young Kamal's match

(he's the lad the Rose highlighted re his recent ITF exploits in Malaysia)

He certainly looks as though he might have a good tennis player in him

Haqim Kamal went on to lose against the Austrian ranked 3 in Europe, as did April (against Sakino Miyazawa). However Milica won her opener, and has just been joined by Liv

Dipped into all the matches so far today

April is playing one of the two big favourites so, not suprisingly, barely got a look in

Milica was playing one of the less well-known girls, and it was close but she deserved it

Liv doesn't have any of the three big names in her pool (I gues she's the big name? ) and seemed pretty comfortable, from the bits I saw

Haqim played well - a little overly ambitious at times

Yes the 4 top seeds are drawn to line one in each of the groups, so Hon, Miyazawa, Bielinska and Zingg.  All the 4 boys top seeds won their first matches easily

Myles also got a win in his second match, so both boys end the day 1-1
