very good win for Swan against a strong serving opponent. Hot weather there in don Benito, also.

I've been sitting watching the points tick over in the 3rd set of Katie's match and it seems to have been match of poor serving and lots of deuce points .. with Katie just doing enough to hold, and her opponent finally buckling under pressure.

I was doing the same - until I realised that Hannah was on court, so flicking back and forth from IPlayer

Swan lost only 4 points against serve in the first set, and only 5 points against serve in the 2nd (4 in the game where broken). I'd say that's excellent serving statistics. There's been some long drawn out games, I'd put that down to both players scrapping like terriers.

I wonder how many more ranking points that means for Katie - in the big picture, it is nice to see her steadily climbing the rankings again and hopefully she can make it into the top 300 or 400 by the end of the year.

The Wimbledon Qualifying will have been very disappointing for her, particularly after having scrapped through the wildcard play offs, so this will hopefully be giving her confidence a much needed boost.

Katie is currently showing as up 14 places on live rankings - to WR740 or 739 depending on which website you look at. That doesn't include the 8 points she has got so far from this tournament which would raise her around another 40 places

Thanks for that info - that is really good news for her, I think.

Yes, 8 more points to add so far from here, net 7 points since she has 1 point to drop on 21/07.

That singie point though will be the last point she is due to drop until next April, essentially the anniversary of her comeback.

So so far she is looking at 50 points from 6 counters on 21/07, indeed taking her to around the WR 700 mark if she weren't to go further here which hopefully she will. Then nothing due off for 8 months with every point a net add on.

Top 400 is currently about 140 points, so another 90 on top of the 50 points she has earned since April. That looks very doable by the end of the year if she can stay fit and well. More would be great but I hesitate to be too greedy for her just yet.
