Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - DOUBLES

Billy & Marcus are into a first set TB vs Harri & Henry. There have been no breaks of serve so far.

Henry and Harri win an all round nervy TB 8-6.

That was close - 8-6 TB to H and H

I seem to remember H and H having lots of tie breaks on their way to the title last year as well - last year, 10 of their 17 sets (60%) went to a tie break and they won 9 of the 10.

So far, this year, 2 of their first 3 sets have gone to a tie break (similar ratio) and they have won both of them

Henry and Harri get a break in the second set and I expect they will get home now, probably 6-3.

They seem really clutch in their matches at Wimbledon, per the tie break conversion stats above. Just never lose serve. Which makes me even more disappointed at how they couldn't convert in their recent bids to get to number one players in the world rankings.

And their we go - looking in good shape so far, well done.

They were 0-40 down so may have lost serve anyway, but Marcus was broken on a double fault that did NOT look out.

Marcus should have played with David or Evo though to give himself a better chance of going further.

 Hmm, don't know if you've watched them. I must admit I haven't.

But beaten a couple of domestic scratch pairs with a TB in the first set each time doesn't look convincing.

They are through to R3 which is what really matters but I suspect they will have to go up a level or two.

I guess what I am saying is that tie breaks here is their modus operandi. As per above, they played 17 sets last year, 10 tie breaks in that and won 9. They have played 4 sets this year, 2 tie breaks and won both. Basically, they don't lose serve and they win tie breaks, and that is how they seem to do Wimbledon! I dont think two straight set wins on grass with pairs that include in Evo a Masters finalist in doubles, and in Billy and Marcus a couple of biggish serving players on grass is bad - they are basically taking care of business and relatively comfortably.

I saw some of first match and that seemed to be in line with my comments here!

I watched a fair bit of both doubles matches

But, honestly, I'm no judge really of doubles - it's a strange sport smile

Yes, I agree, Henry+ didn't look particularly impressive - but lots of pairs don't and somehow seem to do well

Only 10 of the seeded pairs in the mens doubles still standing, with quite a number of last 32 matches still to go. Looks like the singles carnage will pass onto the doubles.
