Outstanding. That match point summed up Mimi - she was everywhere, and so clever and solid. Fantastic!
Yes - but Ella was the exceptional player, I thought
Mimi played well but Ella absolutely aced that match
I agree CD. Ella pulled it back when she was love 40 on her serve in the second set to take it to a tie break and she really got a pummelling from her opponents but was up to the task. A great performance by both players. So happy for them both. Ella was on Insta yesterday and was so excited. Good luck to them in the next round. Great to see.
What an awful performance, losing 7 games in a row in the middle. I think they made about 10 first volleys between them and only won *4* points on their opponents second serve the entire match
Really expected a lot more from this pair after looking so good in Berlin, but that's a few times I've seen Liv in Grand Slams now look very shaky. Maybe another one struggling with expectation and just wanting it a little too much. Shame.
L64:- Tereza Mihalikova (SVK) / Olivia Nicholls (GBR) CR50 (27+23) [9] lost to Kamilla Rakhimova (***) / Anna Siskova (CZE) CR161 (62+59) 4-6 1-6
A bad day at the office happening in the wrong week.
Although I am never convinced about doubles players in Grand Slams - too many singles players who, basically, are better (I appreciate this doesn't necessarily apply here)
L64:- Ella McDonald (GBR) / Mingge Xu (GBR) CR550 (248+302) [WC] def Linda Noskova (CZE) / R Sramkova (SVK) CR282 (75+207) 6-4 (1)6-7 6-3
Really good to see. They have both already shown real ability on a doubles court with quite a number of senior titles with a range of different partners. Today reaffirms it.
Live rankings with a nice 130 points for reaching R2:
Ella: Live ranked #173, live u20 #4, live GB #10
Mimi: Live ranked #200, live u20 #6, live u18 #1, live GB #12

Was going to say Mimi cant be number one, Mirra must be, but of course Mirra is a year older now! How underrated is Ella though? I think she is a really good player, just needs a couple of good breaks and she could be following the Sonay route to the top 100. .
