OMG, what was that shank. Switching back to Emma.

 Dont hold your breath!

Definitely more aggressive than Katie was.

 4-2 with the break.

Sonay gets Diane Parry (Q) in the next round.

Emma not so much.

That was great! And how lovely to see her so relaxed and happy again too.

Really tough draw... Win it and it's wide open though :p

Not sure the performance quite matched the superlatives (BBC saying 4 star maybe even 5 star) but certainly it was what was needed against where Vondrousova's level is right now. At her best she was great and once she knew she had it won, she turned it on. We can all see though that she bottles a few shots during rallies and hopefully with the right pep talk beforehand she can cut those out. To stay with Sabalenka she needs her A game most of the time, and needs to keep her bottle. Pretty unlikely to win a set but this a good level we're now seeing.

Another chance for Sonay. Parry has just put out Shnaider, which is a massive win for her, so might be a better match.
Emma has to start well against Sabalenka and prey on her nerves.

How good was Emma.
And contrastingly:
How poor was Katie

I thought Emma was great! Easy to say her opponent wasn't good and out of form but Emma pushed her back and she won Berlin last week! Obviously next round will be a huge outsider but today was very good. Obviously could do some things better but could do a lot of things worse too.

Katies interview was worrying. Just said her opponent was too good. I mean you served about 15 double faults and could not get a ball in court for 2 sets.
Didnt matter what standard her opponent was at.

On the plus side, Katie has very little to defend until October. She seemed very down in her press conference, she knows it wasn't good enough today. Hopefully she can regroup over the summer and squeeze up into a seeded slot for the US Open.

Seagull I think she was being polite/respectful rather than honest biggrin
