JoMo needs to tidy up his game a bit and he will be able to compete! Needs way more first serves at very least!

I think JoMo isn't used to so many of his serves coming back with interest. He's got some big weapons but to make that next step into the top 150, I think he needs to improve his footwork.

Understandable for such a big guy, but looks a little stuck in quicksand at times, and I think it's why he sometimes misses some quite routine balls. Can get away with those misses in 25K futures, but against a top 20 player, it gets exploited

This - i mentioned in another thread about Ilkley that, when JoMo played Atmane, the French guys coach (Yank) said exactly this. Great serve, but he wont always get it in and his footwork is poor. Atmane couldnt take advantage and the serves did go in, Paul is another kettle of fish

Yeah I was actually thinking about your Ilkley report Jon - it backed up on my own impressions of watching him on streams. Big game, but misses too many "rally" balls from the back, often because his feet aren't quite in position.

I'm sure JoMo and his coaches know that. Will be interesting to see whether he's able to make some improvements in that area over the next couple of years - it's the main thing holding him back in my opinion.

But playing someone like Paul is particularly valuable experience. I've watched many JoMo futures matches in the past year, and the majority of the time, he's able to get by on his serve. Against Paul, he was clocking close to 130mph on a regular basis and everything was coming back with interest - he's not used to facing that level of returner

And now Tsitsipas (24) has retired at two sets down (3-6 2-6) against another Frenchman, Valentin Royer.

And the pesky Polish doper, Majchrzak, dumped out Matteo Berrettini (32) in five sets.  cry

Why is Sinner not deemed a pesky Italian doper?

Yup, Majchrzak, banned for 13 months for taking a substance without knowledge or intent. Not quite Lance Armstrong.

On a serious note, see Evo and Jay are warming up. Be interesting to see how it goes, Evo is rated 90% favourite by Tennis Abstract and I guess the bookies see it similarly?

After the first game, won by Dan on serve, Dan 1/6 vs Jay 4/1, so effectively they are rating Dan at 81%.

He had a brutal accurate serve in the first set and nothing much else whilst the serve has gone AWOL he is now second best here

Martinez was 11/5 against at the off ( sorry George but I thought too big ). Now 6/5 as he breaks again at the start of the 3rd set.
