Oli T and Jubby started well, Giles and Hamish holding their own well as well. Nice start to proceedings

At time of writing, among these 4 intermediate results, there is exactly one surprise and it's Oli.  He has a 5-1 lead

first set, despite being previously considered a massive underdog.  The other three are non-surprises -- the favourite leads in all three.

The French guy is very volatile so wouldn't rule out either a come back or just collapse...aww

Lovely solid set of tennis there from Oliver after a couple of slip overs early on.

And less so from Atmane with a load of double faults and other errors. Also he's playing very quickly, twice complaining to the umpire about Oliver not being ready to receive.

Keep it going, young man!

Can you see Atmanes coach, Indy? At Ilkley he had some grey haired American, around mid fifties, in his corner. Near the end the guy said crazy Frenchman to us. he actually gave Atmane good advise as coaching seemed to be allowed, Atmane listened for about two games before melting down again!

Paul takes the first set 6-3

Giles takes the first set 6-4

Hamish has unfortunately just been broken after a long game to drop the first set 6-4

I saw the American guy coaching but all he was shouting was C-mon, This time, Lets go etc trying to get Atmane to concentrate. Atmane then came to the side about 6 feet from me and started smashing his racket on the rolled up covers. I shouted 'Bloody Hell' at him and got some applause from the crowd! Also watched Jubby doing pretty well against Cilic that day.

Good body language from Oliver, rather better than Atmane's. He recognises important points.

3-2*
