Watched Zakharova at Queen's a few days ago and was really impressed with her grass court game, so even more impressed to see Mika win and in straight sets!
I do wonder why people are ever surprised by Jodie losing! Seems always predictable to me!
There was a 6 month period when she really played consistently well and got inside the top 90. A lot of that was due to not being so hard on herself. That does seem a distant memory and its a hard watch right now.
Disappointing results for Heather and Jodie. Heather did play well at Queen's, and although I didn't see the match, Jodie must have played decently in her three-set defeat to Anisimova who is favourite to win the title. For me, both should get Wimbledon wild cards.
An encouraging win for Mika. Let's see how she does against Jeanjean for a sense of perspective.
Future Wimbledon ladies winner - you read it here first - Mika Stoj wins 6-2, 6-4.
Not actually a top 100 win, as points from Queen's arent added yet, but her opponent won 2qs and a MD match there, and is WR91 on live rankings.
Glad to see Mika get the win, a bit frustrating since beating Jovic at the Junior US Open last year it's the latter who seems to have made much more progress.

They will both get one but for me the jury is firmly out in the case of Heather. Last 5 years at Wimbledon 3 1st round defeats and 1 second round. Ok there was one fourth round but her Wimbledon record but that was 2022 when the Russian etc players were banned. In fact according to Wikipedia she's made it past the 2nd round the same amount of times at the French Open as at Wimbledon.
For me it is time to move on and give the wildcard to a younger player. Heather will for sure be in the doubles and mixed doubles so plenty of opportunity for UK fans to see her.
HarryGem, a fair point, but I guess inherently wild cards aren't fair. Heather is still ranked top 150, popular with fans, and beat Putintseva at Queen's. Add in a 60k paycheck, throwing a young player into the lion's den before they're ready, it becomes all so subjective.
I think the record of first round defeats is a bit of a red herring. How many wildcards have actually won a main draw match at Wimbledon, and do the current contenders actually stand a better chance of a win ?

Yes - wildcards are not 'expected' to win their first round
And, after all, 64 players lose in the first round
As you say, how many wildcards have actually won a main draw match at any of the Grand Slams - obviously some, but obviously not that many
