Week 24 - WTA500 HSBC Championships Queens Club, London - Grass

Heather played well, but came up against a top player in good form and like grass.

Rybakina has had a few days to acclimatise and was on the practice courts on Tuesday (and presumably yesterday as well)

Emma is not far off being seeded at Wimbledon

Yes, she is up to live 36. Reaching the final would probably see her up to WR 30, with nothing to defend next week in advance of the rankings that matter for Wimbledon seeding.

Worth a mention that she won 6-4 6-1

Great win Emma despite the wobble she's well and truly British no 1 now.

It's interesting that more of the points appeared to be on Sramkova's racket, and she was as erratic as ever. I realise it's not about just hitting big, but to me Emma looks a little lightweight at times.

Mental how Laura Robson gets such positive press for dishing out opulent goodie bags to those making up the numbers in the ladies singles.

Lest we forget, she had a scarcely believable stinker at Nottingham 2024. Just ask Evo and Charlie Broom what they make of her rotten weather forecasts and court scheduling.

It's hardly just Laura dishing them out....I've seen many a tournament goody bag posted online with gushing sentiments.

No seats available today except via Viagogo !! Re Emma's match. If her back is fine I think she will take it but I'm not convinced it's not bothering her a bit.

Fantastic set of QF's. Strong 8, and shoutout to the perennial grass slicer and dicer, Maria.

I only saw Emma's match yesterday, and had forgotten how annoying the commentators are, making random assumptions and being so biased rather than commenting on the tennis. Not even sure who they were.

I felt that Emma played well, but lost focus once or twice, and was gifted so many free points (some of them on clutch points), so I don't feel like I've got an overall picture of how well she is playing herself.

I was sad not to see the other matches, but didn't get back from work in time, so any comments contrasting our ladies matches would be appreciated.

I only really saw Emma's match and Qinwen's match

I agree with you 100%, Julia - Emma played well but Sramkova was SO poor overall that there really wasn't much of value to takeaway from the match - no criticism of Emma at all, just that's the opponent on the day

I saw a few balls of Katie's first set - which isn't very helpful as that's the one she won so I don't know how it all went wrong

And saw a few balls at the end of Heather's match - which looked a nice sort of match, Heather playing decently, but Rybakina just a bit too strong, as expected (although looking a little miserable - more than usual - I do think all the disciplinary WTA stuff must have taken a big toll on her)

Qinwen's match was really interesting

She had some lovely tennis, and still struggled - partly because Kessler played some excellent defence (not sure Emma's defence will be the same - she'll need to be more on the front foot)

Emma's betting odds have crashed - indeed, they crashed all the sites - the algorithm set them too high biggrin the money then came flooding in - they were evens at the end of yesterday, and today Emma is quite the favourite - money talks biggrin

Katie was playing great until she got broken from 40-0 up in second set. Her serve just collapsed after that (9 double faults) and she gifted it to Schnaider really - was very winnable

CD,  I think you mean you agree with Helen, it was her  analysis, not mine LOL
