Fran really struggling

Not played much on grass and her game isn't really suited to the surface.

Jodie and Sonay had a couple of set points in a long first set breaker, but ended up losing to the top seeds 7-6(8) 7-6(1).

Fairly easy to see them getting the nod for a Wimbledon wildcard, don't think their best of combined will be good enough to make it directly.

Might Katie & Jodie play together at Wimbledon?

I'm sure they too would need a WC. It's more, as someone mentioned, that the Katie / Emma and Jodie / Sonay partnerships here were possibly largely to ensure that we had one direct entrant pair. Plus I don't see Emma playing doubles at Wimbledon.

Emma playing to a good level although to be fair there isn't a whole lot coming back at her. 6-1, 4-1

As mentioned earlier would be the case if she won her R1 match, Emma goes live GB #1.

I am sure that they are rather more interested in their global positions but for now fight, fight for GB #1   Feel free to join in, Sonay.

Current live rankings:
37. Emma 1351
38. Katie 1326
49. Sonay 1138

Well, live rankings one as you brought up earlier was on the cards. Katie could still hold on to official #1. She needs to go at least one round deeper than Emma.

Liked the aggressive approach on 2nd serve, mid to high 90s mph, until surprisingly went rather passive late on. Several good Raducanu backhands crosscourt. Still a bit passive at times during rallies. A couple of awful forehand errors after good serves. Otherwise a decent performance.

Some thoughts from yesterday at Queens

Very well organised, loads of volunteers around and it wasn't overly crowded. A bit gloomy to start with a little drizzle round 12 noon, but gradually brightened up nd the day ended quite hot and sunny - I forgot to take a hat and am quite red-faced today for the first time in over 30 years. Food available wasn't bad but very pricey as expected. All part of a good day out though, only spoilt by delays on the Jubilee line on the way home.

Saw most of all three matches on Centre Court, apart from a couple of times when we went for a walk round. Katie looked nervous and wasn't at her best - a bit inconsistent, but still beat a tricky opponent. Emma was excellent and didn't give Bucsa a sniff of a chance in that 1 & 2 win. Krejcikova was disappointing, clearly short of practice on the grass and Sramkova took the opportunity with some big hitting. Emma shouldn't have a problem with her though.

Nice on-court interview with Liv between matches. On our wander round we passed Routliffe and Kitchenok returning from prctice and immediately afterwards Jodie and Sonay who must have been practising at the same time. Out on the practice courts were Qinwen Zheng, Shuai Zheng and Elena Ribakina.

I have loads of photos (as usual) and it will take a while to sort out the good ones.

Watched Katie and Emma's games yesterday, and was surprised at the difference in the levels.

I'm not sure if it's my ignorance, but Katie's match seemed slower and more contained, not too much risk taking, whilst in Emma's match there seemed to be more going for winners, and just seemed like a better level match, more energy and more fun to watch.

 I watched them both too

I agree with some of what you say but I did think, though, that Ajla was FAR stronger than Bucsa

The balls that Katie and Ajla were hiting were far heavier and weightier - I agree it looks a little more ponderous but Emma was able to be a lot more energetic because she had lighter balls to attack

Enjoyed both matches though

Thanks for this, I didn't pick up on it, just saw Emma's whizzing past Busca.

I agree that Aja was better than Busca, but also wondered if that was because Emma was hitting it faster as I know that they had had that long close match in Singapore earlier in the year.
