Wimbledon wildcards (women)

Honestly if the slams were reversed and an unknown Brit got to the Semi-Finals at Wimbledon do you really think the French would give them a main draw WC to French Open? Of course not - completely different surfaces for one.

Very probably not, but I think either way round they should. Boisson is now WR 65, yes very largely down to that SF but still ...

And Wimbledon have done it before, I think, with the odd player who has come through like that. And we are British, not French, haha.

Of course all other things being equal, if that French Open SF had been in 2024, 13 months before Wimbledon 2025, and she had done nothing in French Open 2025, she would be a MD direct entry no problem whilst currrently ranked in the 300s.

Hey ho.

Boisson has a SR of 153 according to the qualifying entry list.

Boisson already benefitted from a WC into a GS. If we're going to hand out WC's outside of GB or previous Champions then I'd prefer they went to players that don't have the advantage of a home slam

No, but then Wimbledon doesn't have reciprocal WC's like the other slams, if they did the French would surely pick Boisson.

 Yes obviously

Don't think any other Slam would give a wild card to a player from any nation if they happened to have a great result but were too late to automatically secure a main draw entry.

I think the wild card dilemma stems from criticism back in the day that GB players were just expecting to get wild cards irrespective of their recent performances, and would go on to lose easily. We have greater strength in depth now and no reason not to give wild cards to Brits plus whatever stars need one. More fans want to see these players, plus you're supporting them financially.

Not saying she should get one but she has been badly injured for the best part of 12 months so not had much opportunity to play in other grand slams.

Juniors are much better served by playing qualfying. Good practice on grass and a real sense of achievement should they qualify.

I see Cornet is playing in Nottingham. I thought she'd retired, unless she's been given word of getting a chance to have another big farewell.

Potentially more points? However Slam qualifying is pretty stacked. A few more lower level grass tournaments would have served the younger players a lot better.

Apparently Cornet came out of retirement to play one more grass court season.

So cases being made here and elsewhere for MD WCs for Kvitova, Boisson and Jovic.

Personally I'd be happy for all 3 to get them. Our women overall are as strong as I can ever recall but I don't really see a strong case for more than 5 Brits ahead of these 3.
