She's letting the French girl believe. Too many cheap errors making games tight and providing Monnet with confidence, then it only takes little bits of magic, luck, or excellent play and you are in trouble.
Out of interest, what were the odds of getting each of our players through today? Presumably Emma and Jake were slight favourites, Jodie not so. Was Katie favourite with the bookies?
I never checked out any beforehand.
But at one set all, 6-7(4) 6-1, Katie is currently showing as strong favourite to win. 3/10 vs 5/2.
Katie wins a 6 deuce game with a great worked point. When she gets the basics right and is prepared to work the ball when needed, she's miles ahead. Just needs to stay tidy, but it's getting colder and windier by the minute.

Jake was about 1.5, Emma about 1.4 so quite big favourites.
Jodie was about 15!
Katie would have been a favourite but didnt see her odds
Katie became the 4th British woman player in the 21st century to win a singles match at all 4 Grand Slams. Bally was the first, followed by Jo Ko and then Emma. For the first time since 2011, 2 British women have won a round in the French singles. In 2011 it was Bally and Heather. Prior to that it was Sara Gomer and Jo Durie in 1992 and prior to that it was in the 1980's. The last time 3 British women won a round in the French was 1979.
