Fingers crossed right now as Emma looks out on her feet.

Well done for getting the W Emma! Shame she's up against Swiatek next.

Emma didn't look fit or healthy (MTO), yet won despite a rather passive performance with just the occasional good shot from her. Lack of quality on both first serve and 2nd serve. Standard of play was dreadful at times, Emma fought back from 1-5 in the 2nd to *4-5 40-15 yet failed to take any of 4 game points. Hopeless attempt at serving out the match, missing 7 out of 8 first serves from 30-0, two mps vanished due to 2nd serves with no penetration.

Maybe with her back spasm still having an impact, an early exit might be a blessing giving her more time to recover for the grass season. She hinted it wasnt as bad as Australia but it obviously impacted her serve which has been going so well recently. Get better soon Emma.

Main thing is she won though. At the end of the day that is the only stat that really matters. They are both ranked in the 40s for a reason.

Her serve was still better than Wang's though.

I'm not quite sure what you were expecting, but she won and played solid at times, even if she wasn't at her best.

Emma seemed very adept at hitting the ball corner to corner. That was her main tactic throughout the match and it seemed to work. Whenever Emma tried anything more subtle her opponent pounced on it. It was a case of keep it simple and win.

I quite enjoyed that match, obviously not at her best but tried hard and played well at points, can just hit out against Iga, she seemed to have plenty of crowd support and if (huge if) she could keep it close, you never know, Iga isnt the invincible machine she used to be and Emma did give her a decent match on clay a few years ago. Was that Nick Cavaday back in the box?

Didn't see it but on the face of it it chalks up as a decent win over a decent opponent, so well done, Emma.
