Thanks to Sheddie and STEVEN in particular but we all have a part in making the forum the place it is.
I can't remember how or when I found it. I do admit to having a flounce and coming back under this name, I feel like I have been here a while. Before COVID definitely. Maybe as long as 2015/16.
Flamingowings! I actually remember thinking you were called Flaming Owings - felt somehow a better name to me!
I would also support better technology as well, in however that comes. I was part of a niche book board and the infrastructure got so old that one day it just wasn't there anymore and the companion Facebook group isn't the same as the board was.
'Flaming Owings' still makes me actually laugh out loud - like some Texan BBQ outlet (with maybe a bit of Irish thrown in)
Just to chip in:
Huge thanks to Sheddie, to Steven, to all the stalwarts of this forum - it is a joy, pure and simple
I joined in 2013 or so (can't remember) and
PS I did really love Steven's tables - so pretty, and so useful - and his excuse for dropping them, that he needed to get a life, get married, couldn't spend four hours a night updating them, was pretty lame, I thought
I find the tech fine, tbh - it runs smoothly, quickly, doesn't seem to crash, I like the format (I HATE change), everything I need is basically great
No idea if this applies also to the underlying system, I'm only seeing the surface (and wouldn't understand any of the other anyway)
There are only two issues that I would highlight:
1. New members - this seems more important than anything else - top priority - it breathes new life
2. Search function - it would be nice if the search function came back, and if it actually worked
Again, Sheddie, you're a star - and everyone else whose been around a longtime to give character, and a warm feeling to the forum - and those who've been less time and give a new buzz - and the slightly feisty ones - and the ones who need to stop by a bit more (Bob, where are you?) - luv y'all !
And also I absolutely to give a massive shout out to Stircrazy - the forum's most prolific, organised and grammatically proficient poster, this place wouldn't be the same without her. Without her incredible results services, it would be much harder to follow the progress of our players on a daily basis. And of course, it's allowed me t appreciate just how the British doubles game has grown in leaps and bounds over the last 15-20 years!
I'm late to the party. Sorry! I saw the first couple of posts in each of the three threads covering the changes in the appearance of the board after I noticed them early yesterday afternoon & came to this forum thinking I might find an explanation for what had happened.
A couple of points: I love the banner headline & missed it dreadfully when it disappeared, so I'm delighted to see it restored & see no reason to change it. However, is there nothing that can be done to tone down the actual title headline? I'm not sure of the right word to describe its effect, but I feel that it sort of "blares" at me whenever I open the page & makes me want to scroll down as fast as I can to get it out of my line of sight! I, too, as an avowed technophobe/IT-illiterate, like the format of the board & would hate to see it change. In addition, I agree with CD that an effective search function would be very welcome.
I hardly know where to begin to thank Sheddie for his kind words. I'm flattered, but prolific? Yes, but not difficult, given the number of draws & results every week, especially with the doubles thrown in, not to mention posting links to what I hope are the useful articles I come across. Organised? He wouldn't be saying that if he could see the mess in my flat... Grammatically proficient? Guilty as charged, but only because of the way my mind works (very literal!), my professional training as a linguist & my obsession with "getting it right", all of which means I can't help it! Many would say that that makes me a complete pain in the arse, but that gets me absolutely nowhere when I complain to the Beeb or to The Times because no one cares any more.
Thanks for creating this forum Sheddie and thanks to all the other posters, admin and members that all contribute to a great community. This forum which I only found a few years ago, has been so enjoyable to follow and share opinions and read interesting knowledge on everything British tennis. It is great to see British tennis overall in quite a healthy position and lets hope it continues to thrive along with this forum as I look forward to the years ahead!
