Frustrating that moving the 2nd tier grass events to WTA125 level means we no longer get to see either the full entry list of qualifiers and alternates nor a near live view of the latest list that we get with ITFs. It'd be interesting to see who else has entered, particularly any juniors not in Paris and any college players - realise they would need wild cards but it gives an idea of who's interested in pursuing this path. The LTA probably won't update their list until a couple of days before it starts if past experience is anything to go by.
I hope the move up a level doesn't hurt our players chances of ranking gains too much. Will we see stories like Isa's run in Surbiton a couple of years ago from a QWC to the QF? Will graduating college players need to wait until the summer ITFs to get the wins they need to kickstart their pro careers?
Were Katie and Emma eligible to enter here and are they able to take a WC?
Normally they wouldn't but as its during the 2nd week of a Grand Slam, they were able to enter and can take a WC. Only top 10 players are not eligible to play 125s during the 2nd week of a 2 week mandatory event.

Am I right that there are NO grass court warm-up events for women below W125 level in the UK this year?
(Just a British Tour event or two, presumably?)
So, without Surbiton, without any real event, how is the LTA supposed to pick the wildcard players on grass?
I was looking at the Wimbly wild card situation earlier this week to get some idea who is in the running. Any names below are in ranking order.
At a stretch I see 6 MD WC's - Fran, Harriet, Heather, Jodie, plus Lily and Marni who are both a bit low i the rankings.
After that I see 26 pther players in contention for a maximum of 8 QWC's and 16 playoff places (I appreciate that there aren't 8 QWC's available). The question is who would be in each group, eg Hannah, Hep, Mika, Brooke and others. Going to be a tricky one ( and probably needs a thread of its own)

Most definitely
But still confused how the powers that be are going to judge the lower wildcards (i.e. for playoffs) if they girls haven't played at all on grass
Just trying to understand the concern, and most likely me not understanding!
So this Birmingham 125 event is now in the Surbiton slot - ie during the French Open. So it is the lead in event as Surbiton was.
So given that, Im trying to understand the main difference in CDs mind- and this is where Im not up to speed with womens tennis! Does a WTA 125 in that same slot attract a much better entry level than an ITF 100 that Surbiton used to be for women? And is the field in the main draw and qualies a lower number of players? Ie does this Birmingham event provide less opportunity for British players? Forgive me, as I dont know? On face value it seems to be a nearly direct replacement, certainly for the men it is a Birmingham 125 Challenger replacing a Surbiton 125 Challenger in the exact same spot, but maybe the womens change has more impact?
Surbiton ITF 100 had a 32-player quali draw last year
W125s always/usually have 8
Cool, that makes a big difference then. Presumably also the next week as Ilkley is also a WTA 125 and replaces what was the ITF 100 in the same week, I think?
The LTA are currently listing 21 players on their entry list, leaving 11 spots for wild cards and qualifiers. Four wild cards is the normal allowance, but if they only award three it leaves open the possibilty of a 16 or 32 player qualifying competition for 8 places, but an 8 player draw does also look a distinct possibility and as CD says is the norm.

Looking at the WTA website for 125s , there do appear to be some 32 draw qualies events - eg Canberra before the AO. So perhaps that will prove the case here as well, hopefully so.
